Marner went MIA vs Bergeron / Marchand?
Where did Point go against CBJ? - Garnie
Marner disappeared as soon as Kadri was gone in game 2...look at the stats, rewatch the games
The entire team disappeared in Tampa. Tampa is a great regular season team but very flawed. That’s for another day. I lost a friend for a few months that I sit with at Amalie because my friend said Tampa would win it all and I said every game we were there they would not. They won’t win it this year either |

Is it a nice cap hit? Maybe. If he stays healthy yes. If he makes more than McDavid guys on here will call Dubas a genius for recognizing he's better than McDavid. - aminnes
I have my own well documented issues with what the Leafs did with their roster. The cap hit IMO is fine for Matthews, but by the time it's a bargain it will be set to expire.

he was the number 1 draft pick in the 16 draft and touted as the next generational talent and backed it up by spending his entire entry level contract as a goal machine and leafs best player. a negotiation was had between he and the leafs and an agreement was reached. the leafs have done the same with marner whose production was not quite the same as matthews, and here we are 2 weeks from training camp and he's still not signed a deal. - LeafnsNxt2Godlyns
None of that means anything. He was paid like the 2nd best player in the NHL on a shorter term deal. He either becomes that player or is overpaid.
Again, even then he was given a 5 year deal vs 8. He essentially signed a longer bridge deal at UFA market value. It's not a team friendly deal, no matter which way you slice it. |

dubas trading kadri and connor brown were mistakes, they were cap friendly good players. nylander should have been the one to go. |

it matters, marner was always 2nd banana to matthews. |

Johnson tailed off big time. Kappy skates like the wind and shoots lots of pucks at the goalie or off in the corner. I love both players but not first line players. Do I need to name all the players that Tavares made rich in New York. Tavares carried the islanders by himself. Barzal while a great player took a step back and couldn’t carry team. Tavares is special - leafluver27
Did you just say Johnnson tailed off?
Lol
Seriously?
In the last 4 months he was 4th highest in the entire league in P/60 |

Nylander is the better player. And significantly younger than Kadri. And I like Kadri and Brown. |

Tampa Bay season ticket holder here, but a Leaf fan. I’d trade Marner for Point yesterday. Point skates elite. Plays defensively and scores 40 goals and shows up in playoffs despite the competition
Marner skates elite not a centre doesn’t score at an elite rate and went MIA vs boston in playoffs.
Mathews and Point better than Marner. Enjoy the cheese and chocolate in Switzerland
Hope leafs play hardball I hope. - leafluver27

Dubas signing JT was the mistake. You already had 3 C's, 2 for sure.
That's what drove up Matthews price and also changed the Leafs from a team with a pile of cap space to a team without any. JT's one hell of a player, so it's not about that. They just didn't need to add elite talent to the forward ranks, at least not at that cost.
Signing JT was a step backwards imo, but if they win even 1 cup it will be worth it and forgotten. I just think they've sacrificed depth and flexibility although there are still a few high end talents on the cusp of graduating. |

Signing a superstar 50 goal PPG player was a mistake?
Dude, use logic. Don’t be one of those guys who hate on the Leafs so much they will say anything to prove to themselves that they suck. |

It isn't a fantasy league, it's about roster building.
Why pay two 1C's when you only need 1? Your 22 year old #1C is playing 18:30 a night, instead of 21.
Your 2C is playing wing, because he's certainly not a 3C. Your 3C is now in Colorado.
Then, factor in his signing to the impact on you're existing roster's salaries vs money spent addressing other areas of the roster. |

I'll take JT over Marner any day of the week. lol Not even close. Same with Matthews. Both guys can score around 40 goals while playing with pylons.
Marner needs a top tier NHL scorer as a crutch to get his numbers up.
I wish someone would just offer sheet him and have him sign already. I'll take 4 first rounders, this is getting annoying.
Wish they did the same with Nylander, and they didnt, and we all know how that worked out.
Glad i didnt buy either one of their jerseys. Never will. |

For me signing him meant losing on of the kids. Sign JT trade WN, sounds good to me. But Dubas. |

JT is just too good an asset to pass up acquiring in his prime for nothing but cap space. An elite, first overall pick centre, a unicorn. If you can acquire assets like that without trading anything you just do it and sort it out later. It's like saying I won't pick up this free bag of gold because I don't want that many precious metals in my portfolio. |

I'd also like to point out that JT has never scored 50 goals, and never eclipsed 40 until last season with ...........Marner on his wing.
Also, he's not a PPG player for his career....nor is he going to make it at this pace. Yes, he is a PPG player over the past 2 seasons. |
