It's weird that people don't realize how good Brown is as an overall player. He simply was pushed into a checking role by babs due to no one else being there. Nylander did jack poop in his junior days while brown was a superstar. Kadri has always been good. Here's the scenario: Kadri and Brown or Nylander and plug. I think it's an easy answer. Oh but right handed Gardner...

As good as Brown is, if you asked Matthews I'm 99% sure he'd prefer Nylander over Brown. Considering Matthews is the franchise player, that's all that would really matter.

Brown was relegated to being a checker because the leafs are a powerhouse offensively. There was no where else to put him, which made him expendable.
- shack67

At that time not sure that's accurate. Came off 20 goals and was relegated because management invested money and had to see it through from what I can see.

If you call being an almost ppg player in division 1 Sweden at 16 and 17 against men nothing, then you are confused. And if you are referring to Brown's big season....nylander had 10 points at the world juniors, and was a ppg player in the swedish elite league. Thats at age 18.

He's a beast on the big ice where no one gets hit.

I was referring to when Andersen needs a new deal. Is it after next year?
- aminnes

He has this year and next year left on his current deal.

But the Leafs don't have anybody in the system who can replace him when his deal is done.

Sparks did everything there was to do in the AHL and still sucked in the NHL.

The Leafs have decent goaltending prospects but by no means do they have a sure fire top end goaltending prospect who the Leafs can safely say will take over in 2022.

Ah, so the nhl counts as big ice? Also at age 18, nylander was scoring almost a ppg in the ahl. What do you think that translates to in the ohl? Brown was 22 on the same team when he could do that. Must be the big ice on the ahl rinks too.

Are we really focusing on our goaltending 3 years from now? Who knows what woll and Scott will be, right now they look great, but to worry if they are up to the challenge when they will be 24 and 22....man, that's so far away.

I do think brown is a decent player. Also think he suffered from being so far down the lineup. But if he's in your top 6, you are likely and ottawa as opposed to a playoff team.

3 years ago, people said "Ah who cares about 3 years from now with Marleau's contract" and here we are today without a 1st round pick because of it. The big picture always matters.

Andersen needs a new deal is the point.

There's been a whack of goalies on the Marlies, and one in particular who is now 26 and is as far away from a number 1 spot in the NHL as he was 5 years ago - maybe even further after watching him play. As Leaf fans, it's never too early to worry.

Do people not realize how important Andersen is to the Leafs? Especially given how poop their defensive play usually is.

Well yeah he does. But that extension will be next years discussion. And really depends on how the leafs do playoff wise the next 2 seasons.

Yes we do. But the defense isn't as poop as it was either. We haven't even seen how this year's team is going to be, and sorry you can't pretend you know. Because you don't. Unless you called Reilly scoring 70 points and leading all dmen in goals....which I'm sure you didn't. No offense.

Odds are one of Scott or woll will be like a sparks, and the other might actually be really good. But whatever we do, please don't trade the wrong one again!

It's all about value to a team. Nylander has value, just not on the Leafs at 6.9. They can surely find 20/60 for less than that somewhere. I don't see the point in his cap hit on this particular team. Scoring is not an issue, keeping pucks out of the net is.

Given how defensively poop the Leafs are, they're not going anywhere without Andersen standing on his head.

And at that point, he earns himself more and more money.

The earlier the better might be the most with Rielly and Andersen.

Royal Gala is a pretty poopty apple. Try the ambrosia, it's far superior.

An Aurora Golden Gala is an incredible apple, but it bruises easily so it's really not a big seller before retail.
