Pretty sure that I heard that they were 500K apart from here. Your own blogger....

Chia was a GM for several teams and for several years... Bad management exists.

I just look at the numbers and past performances. I know this might be hard for you, but Ceci was one of the worst defensemen on OTT last year. Maybe he has a turn around season maybe not. But I look at past performance to make future predictions.

If paying your best player 500K more gets him signed for 8 years then you do that move. Making your best players happy isn't bad business. Unfortunately, the Leafs don't have the cap space to pay him anything extra.

Cap advise from a Hawks fan, irony at its best. We should have signed Seabrook until age 40 for $7 million a year for his 28 point a year production. I hear he's wearing Hossa's old jock-strap.

In your defence, golf in Newfoundland is tough, what with the wind and the moose and the rain and the snow...

Seabrooks contract was to reward him for his role in 3 Cups. Unfortunately, they didn't think he would deteriorate as fast as he did and now the contract is probably the worst contract in the NHL. Luckily, the Hawks have some superb defensive prospects on the way on cheap contracts.

I am surprised they still call it that

Not that I give a flying (frank) but some would have your head for saying that

But no golfers seems to give a poop

Absolutely.

Let's say the negotiated deal is $9.5x6:

If you sign that on October 9, the cap hit this year is $9.8, and in years 2-6 it's $9.44m.

On October 16th, that changes to $10.14m / $9.38m.

By October 23rd, it's hit the $10.5m mark (offset to $9.32 in subsequent years).

The benefit to the Leafs of waiting is zero - that extra $100k - $200k in cap space is irrelevant. The benefit to Marner of waiting is zero. So once this game of chicken has run its course and Ferris realizes his bag of tricks is empty, they can come to terms.

100%. The fact that the Marner camp refused to negotiate in season has always rubbed me the wrong way - say what you want about Matthews, but his willingness to play ball with the organization speaks a lot to his commitment to the team, even though I still think $11.634M x 5 was an over payment now, hopefully not once the contract takes effect and he proves he's worth it.

I just can't see a scenario where $10-$10.5M with term is a slap in the face to a playmaking winger like Marner that had an outlier season playing with a guy that sniped 47 goals and is a top 5 centre in the NHL. Tavares' history is making players around him better - Moulson, Lee, etc.

And judging by the Hawks moves to get a bunch of mediocre overpaid D men this team is going no where for a long time.

Your cup runs are over. It’s cool to be a fan of that team for that reason but it’s over.

I am aware that the Switzerland stuff is his agent being a doofus. It's the same thing he does with everyone. I was being sarcastically naive in those comments.

Shocking this is the same guy that said earlier "just pay him the extra $500K to get it done"...that kind of management wrecks rosters long term. (See: Blackhawks, Chicago)

I'm not actually kidding.

I golfed Clovelly about 15 years ago.

It was a nice, warm day in June. I was in the pro shop just before tee-off, and they had a pullover jacket on the bargain rack. What the hell, bought it, stuffed it in the bag.

It was me and a buddy (we were in St. John's at a conference). They matched us up with a local.

3rd hole (iirc) is a par 3. The local guy puts it on the green, and a fox runs on, grabs the ball and runs off (he dropped it about 20 yards off the green). Me and my buddy are laughing - the local guy says something to the effect of "nature comes into play here often."

So while we are out on the course, the temperature probably drops about 15 degrees Celsius. If I hadn't bought the jacket, I probably would have died.

Near the end of the round (let's say hole 16), we putt out, start walking towards 17th tee. Local guy says (with a sense of urgency), "Drop your bags and follow me!"

We comply. He herds us into a lump of trees. We look back, and there is a moose running down the 16th fairway.

It's the most memorable round of golf I've ever played.

There's a team in Toronto gearing up for the season through training activities too. They are trying to leverage the Leafs - call the bluff I say. Have fun in Switzerland Mitch, and by the way, when you wake up from this ridiculousness the Leafs still own your rights for the foreseeable future.

The Hawks were 6 points out last year.

Look at the numbers / shot suppression % when Maata is on the ice. It's exactly what the Hawks need despite him being slow. De Haan is a solid top 4 defensemen. Don't see the hate for the guy besides just being ignorant.

Hawks had the 7th best offense in the league and added Shaw + Dach + Kubalik and several other big players.

On the defense they added Maata, De Haan, and possibly Boquist + Mitchel. They then added Lehner in net.

I bet we make the playoffs this year and as we saw. Anything can happen.

Also, EDM and Buffalo suck.

Don't ever do it in front of Mrs. Wedgie, unless you want to suffer the wrath for 18 holes.

The Hawks were 6 points out of a wild card last year, and they finished one point ahead of the last place team in their division and they were 5 points ahead of the team that finished second last in the conference.
BLAH BLAH BLAH, we stank and still do.
