Exactly.

Or just trade Nylander to afford the Rielly and Andersen extensions.

Both make 10 AAV combined and that may go up to 18 AAV.

What, trade him now?

I wouldn't give Andersen much of a raise.

Listen bumhole, you rambled, I didn't.

My specific argument (not including my constant disagreement with your daily idiocy) was that there is no evidence to suggest that Puljajarvi > Bracco.

Then you spent the rest of the day telling all of us how tall Puljajarvi was, all the time.

Oh, and for the record, me saying I don't like the deal (I don't), does not preclude me from believing that Edmonton would say no.

Consider yourself blessed that I would even respond to your derp. Most of the time I just laugh at you.

Leafs D has been pretty bad and looks to continue being pretty bad. Willing to roll the dice on a rookie or lesser goaltender? I wouldn't.

With the top end goalies pulling in 10, Andersen as a top 10 goalie should see an increase up to at least 7 but probably 8. And as a UFA, that could be even higher.

Then Rielly at 8 or 9 as well.

Definitely not.

Nylander can't get full value if they trade him now. Much better to rebuild his value playing with Matthews and trade him at the 2020 draft.

Nylander showed up out of shape.

Six weeks in rehab will do that to you.

Rehab is where they get you OFF drugs, not on them.

Let him sit in the mountains. He’s not a goal scorer. Had one great year. He’s not a centre. He went missing vs boston after game 2. Mathews was definitely the better player. Marner has Tavares and Mathews has “pick a winger”.
- leafluver27

I believe Matthews to be the better player, but using the playoffs is a little off. IMO

Marner had the Bergeron/Marchand line 3x more then Auston.

Big surprise that Matthews went from 1 playoff goal to 5 because of that from one year to the next. And the Marner line still produced points.

We didn't beat them but it was close, we'll be fine. You're a little hard on your own team, and I get what you're saying....sometimes.

Our D aren't super, but there's not many teams in the league with 6 all star D.

We could surprise this year, especially if we can squeeze Gardiner in again.

Rielly/Muzzin/Barrie/Gardiner is a pretty good top 4....and even without Gardiner we should be able to coast into the playoffs and maybe scoop up a good D at the TDL.

It's not a matter of having 6 All-Star D. It's a matter of there being too many guys who play the exact same style and too few who know what to do in their own end.

It's the same problem they have with the forwards. Speed and skill for days but toughness, physicality and grit almost non-existent, especially with Kadri gone.

If Gardiner signed, that top-4 is still soft and defensively flawed. Without Gardiner, it's still the same because then poopstain Ceci gets more ice time and he's even worse.

thanks to manufactured parity there are lots of good players out there making less money or willing to play for the cap space toronto has. marner can get traded for them no problem and so can nylander. time to nip this poop in the bud. they are good players but they're not the only ones, they're just the ones toronto drafted who have been unwilling to play fair ball.
- LeafnsNxt2Godlyns

There's about ten other really, really good RFAs that are all unsigned right now. This idea that there are amazing young players we can trade for who won't negotiate to get a lot of money is magical thinking.

Fair ball?

Please enlighten us on how they haven't played fair.

Broken any rules?

Circumvented the CBA?

Kicked any puppies?

- Atomic Wedgie

going from entry level contract to wanting matthews money to missing half a season like nylander already did to training camp about to start and female dog marner cant sign for 10 mil a season because he apparently has to have more but it's a dream to play for the toronto maple leafs tho....

Did Matthews not come off an ELC before he got Matthews money?

It's called negotiation and so many people haven't got a clue how it works.

they're all waiting for marner and i'm sure many of them would take 10 million a year deal to play on this leafs team. in other words they'd probably sign the contract that marner won't.

Obviously they would...because they aren't as good as Marner, aren't worth that money and would be overpaid.

He played ball because he got the number he wanted. And chances are, he started by asking for McDavid money and settled at 11.6 just the same way Marner is going to ask for 11.6 and settle at 10.
