So you're blaming all the other RFAs' hold outs on Marner too? Wow. - Zezel
you must be new to hockey or just like to play devil's advocate. he is the top scoring rfa in the hockey hotbed that is toronto, the rest of the league is basically waiting for him to set the standard for the rest of them because they want to get top dollar. the more marner gets the more they can command relative to marner's take. |

Dubas best moves of the spring/summer were locking up his lower cost RFA's. Those were the guys that would have been good/decent targets as UFA's. - golfingsince
yeah agreed. I was surprised he was able to get those guys done, |

He played ball because he got the number he wanted. And chances are, he started by asking for McDavid money and settled at 11.6 just the same way Marner is going to ask for 11.6 and settle at 10.
They aren't. - JohnFergusonJr
if mr. maple leaf marner was going to take 10 he would have done so by now. |

Or maybe negotiation is a common tactic for contracts. |

I love the Kool Aid, but Marner is better than Rantanen and Laine, and it's not really a radical assessment. It's arguable, but it's not that bold a statement. You yourself are saying Marner sets the market for this RFA class. |

or no it's not common for it to drag on into training camp and eventually the season and is detrimental to the performance and final outcome of the team. they just went through this last season with nylander and look how well it worked out for the team. it worked out for willie's bank account but not for his performance or production and it didn't help the leafs achieve much of anything. |

rantanen had 87 points last season, how much worse than marner do you think he is? if he'll take 10 or less i would take him over marner no problem and if you think marner is that much better than rantanen throw a draft pick and a prospect in and move on.
laine is laine highly touted goal scorer drafted #2 behind matthews. |

We don't know what Rantanen would take because he is also unsigned. I wouldn't trade Marner for Rantanen and Colorado's first round pick anyway. |

I think there's a better chance of Nylander being a 30G/80P guy over a full season. General rule of thumb is forwards usually have their breakout year around year 4.
Hypothetically, if those turn out to be Nylander numbers you have a super Phil Kessel comparison. Having Nylander at 1.1 Million less than Kessel on a deal he signed 5 years later is a pretty good deal. - MrBen
If you take Nylander's 10% shooting rate and his highest shot total 205 - not getting much higher than that - it's 20. If he's really lucky maybe he hits 25. |

Leafs D has been pretty bad and looks to continue being pretty bad. Willing to roll the dice on a rookie or lesser goaltender? I wouldn't.
With the top end goalies pulling in 10, Andersen as a top 10 goalie should see an increase up to at least 7 but probably 8. And as a UFA, that could be even higher.
Then Rielly at 8 or 9 as well. - JohnFergusonJr
The goal is to develop a guy ad let Andersen walk |

Yeah. Montreal isn't making the playoffs. Not sure they'll finish above Florida to be honest. They don't nearly have enough quality. |

Agreed.
Two good teams sealing two good wingers for no good reason....yeah that makes zero sense.
People forget that these players have lives and friends on the team. Why break that apart over nothing. |

Big surprise that Matthews went from 1 playoff goal to 5 because of that from one year to the next. And the Marner line still produced points. - JohnFergusonJr
Nothing to do with JT.
Nothing at all.
Matthews has Kapanen and he’s the same player basically................... |

Not saying trading him is the best option because it’s not....
But if Marner is going to stand pat on 11 million I’d love a Marner for Werenski/Anderson.
Werenski will probably get 6x6.5
I’d still rather have Marner at a reasonable cap hit..... |

They gotta make the 3rd round or else Babs is gone.
Dubas had this invisibility cloak for the first year as GM. But now that there’s a crunch, he’s showing signs of immaturity. Not from anything he said, but by showing he lacks foresight to plan for the future.
When he signed JT, I was like, sweet! But that’s gonna hurt when the sign AM and MM.. and it hurts.. - Arctic_AARDVARK
Says the guy that thinks Ennis would get 60 points next to Matthews.
I think you are the one that lacks insight.
Not Dubas. |

Florida snags a wild card spot. .
Their top six is solid, and adding Bob will be a big boost. |

Everyone’s so negative
I catch a lot of fuss, but you’re all snappier than usual, lol..

Why unravel men? The cap won’t go up much in 2020-21 but in 2 years with Seattle new tv contract in USA n the gambling the cap will go up |
