In my opinion there were a number of factors that contributed to his struggles. One was physical issues. More importantly, Provorov's heart and desire to excel and to win, along with what has really been a necessary but unfair burden placed on him since day one in the league, caught up to him. Trying to do too much instead of just letting the game flow. Really not unexpected and in my opinion, nothing to be alarmed about. Part of the development curve.

Well looking at it that way is there much to expect differently this year, aside from the physical issues that never have been documented, just speculation? The only thing changing will be hopefully a better fit for a partner in Niskanen but he will still have the burden of top lines against him, heavy minutes, and PK duties. All of which come with a great degree of pressure and expectations.

Hopefully a better team, consistent goaltending, and more reliable depth on the D changes things but I'm still a bit hesitant to handout a 6-8 year contract for big money.

Produces is relative. Really if you want to have a championship level team, you need to be sound away from the puck, especially with your top players and players that are on the ice the most. Konecny to this point has not produced to the level that careless one way play can accepted and I doubt that he ever will get to that level. He doesn't have be a Selke level forward but he does have to be responsible away from the puck as well as manage the puck well. He does have to play hard in the defensive end. Look at the best teams. With few exceptions, their best players are responsible defensively.
- MJL

He has had over 20 goals in the past two seasons.

With that level of production I don't think he should be in the dog house because he isnt a constant 200 foot player.

Has led the team in ice time all 3 seasons of his NHl career. He is their acknowledged best all-around D. Has never missed a game. Has a 17-goal season to his credit.

And if you are going to say "So what?;Who was his competition on their blue line to take those mins from him?" then, guess what, it speaks to the Provorov camp's leverage more than the Flyers.

Honest question, why does the bolded part matter?

Common sense would tell you that it's just one metric that shows how important he has been to the team over the past 3 years.

That level of production does not buy any player a pass.

Doesn't it make sense that the team's best defenseman plays the most? It signifies how the team feels about the player and how much they rely on him.

Right, that would make sense. But has he proven he is fully the best d-man? He’s proven he is the d-man that plays the most.

Last year leaves some doubt in my mind, despite his usage.

It shouldn’t. Last season was season three for Ivan Provorov. Sanheim has developed nicely but he hasn’t played the minutes that Provorov has or faced the same compilation.

I don't think he'd take anything under 8 long term. But it's hard to say.

If not move on

Yes
And how do you ask for over 8 mil per year as an RFA on a majorly down year...
Need a short bridge reasonable deal to prove it.
For all we know Provy may be a # 3 D man in 2 years
And that would surely suck

Yeah, I still think he is going to be awesome, I want him to be our two-way force on the backend.

It looked like he was trying to do a little too much last year and getting away from the game he played the first two years.

Agree on this, there is always a chance and the dude is a thoroughbred. They could make and amazing 1-2 punch for the next 10 years, regardless of who ends up better

It means it wouldn't surprise me if he got ridiculously overpaid.
He was awful last season. How is he regressing at this stage of his career? He's got 250 NHL games under his belt and he's going backwards instead of getting better? I get it he's 22, but 3+ full seasons you'd like to see players trending in the other direction. It wouldn't surprise me if he got in the 7.5 AAV range,
