It means it wouldn't surprise me if he got ridiculously overpaid.
He was awful last season. How is he regressing at this stage of his career? He's got 250 NHL games under his belt and he's going backwards instead of getting better? I get it he's 22, but 3+ full seasons you'd like to see players trending in the other direction. It wouldn't surprise me if he got in the 7.5 AAV range,

To be fair, he had a good rookie year then had a better 2nd year. He skipped the typical “sophomore slump”. It’s not like he’s consistently going backwards. It’s one season. Not saying throw the bank at him though. Ghost also had a great rookie year, meh sophomore year and then had his best year. Provy absolutely can still get better

Provorov is obviously trash. In 2 years, with his constant state of regression, he'll be playing like a 17-year-old CHL player.

If they give him more than league minimum, they're drastically overpaying him.

which then begs the question of why wasn't Amac resigned, the guy played almost 20+ minutes a night and i mean, i dont know about the rest of you but seemed like a pretty dang good top 4 dman in this league

He's probably not taking anything less than $6M for 7 years. That's the going rate for a good top-4 guy like him.

If i were him id try to get a bidding war started between two teams, its possible he could squeeze maybe 6.5m a year out of a team if they feel like they absolutely need to have his skill set.

26 points -16 last year. He's got the hammer in negotiations. Open up the vault!

Those stats are replacement level poop.

People like you in 2017: "Giroux's regressing, his point totals have been dropping every year for the past 3 years. He hasn't topped 75 points in 4 years!"

Did Provorov have a terrible season last year? Yes, no one will argue that. Given his body of work, is last year more a sign of regression or an anomoly? Given that he played well as a rookie, played like a top-20 dman the year after, and then struggled mightily last year, I'd go with the latter, personally.

Give him 10 million per year. Will be a bargain when those Norris trophies start rolling in.

Who one here, besides the Rags fan, has said to pay him $10M per?

It was supposedly an asking point from his camp according to someone that TSN reported, he obviously would never get $10M. The Rags fan was actually being civil lol.

He was being very civil, but was also the only one saying that $10M may be reasonable.

5 mill range for Werenski would be great!

That's a good sign for the Flyers then, come to reality quicker. Obviously Werenski or Macavoy signing speeds everything up but a report of them asking for $10M even as a negotiating starting point is insane.

lol idk Mark Gandler's players he represents. Just saying if Provy was to potentially miss games i think he would cave, doesn't matter who the agent is, if the player says just get it done he will have to.

Any doubt? I think Sanheim might end up better at the end of the day

Certainly possible.
