Carol Schram: Canucks' Jim Benning talks RFA signings, Tryamkin and burying big contracts
At the press conference to announce his new contract extension, Jim Benning expressed confidence that the Vancouver Canucks would get Brock Boeser and Nikolay Goldobin under contract before training camp, held out hope that Nikita Tryamkin might return after his KHL deal expires at the end of this season and said he has the green light from management to bury contracts in the minors if necessary. |

Thanks Carol,
Sutter has warrior bloodlines, I hope he stays healthy and has a good battle with Gaudette for the 3C spot. If he loses something has to give. |

Then he's the odd man out. Bad luck, simple as that. |

Thanks Carol,
I still think there are deals out there that could satisfy both teams and provide a chance for redemption.
Abdelkader has 4 more years at 4.25 and looks like he's worn out his welcome in Det.
Alzner looks to be buried again and could potentially fill Schenn's role here. |

Thx Carol. Hopefully Ferland is injury-free as stated. I've been told not to expect the Ferland we saw kill us in the PO's, but it would sure be nice to have some of that in the line up. |

He hasn't been that player since the series, luckily that's because he's a very effective complementary offensive player.
It also probably has something to do with the Ref's actually calling him for charging. Rewatch his highlights from that series and its comical what he was allowed to get away with. |

I didn't know until recently he had alcohol issues in CAL. Apparently he's all good now. |

Alzner is terrible. Abdelkader is arguably worse, both are so slow and out of place in today’s game that we are much better off with Sutter. |

I've always found charging to be an odd penalty. If they really called it by the book then plenty of hits on the forecheck would get called, especially in the playoffs.
Just seems like an unnecessary penalty, especially since there's already penalties for hits to the head, elbowing, hits from behind, etc. |

Nucker;
When I played I put out 1-2 players a game. Charging is usually what I got called for. It's a necessary penalty otherwise I'd have crushed the entire team in a game.
Players like Downey were putting out players with charging till they really cracked down on him.
What I dont like is the obstruction penalties that are like putting your glove on a player. Stupid.
Next it'll be for farting on the goalie |

That's because you're a massive dude. Guys like Derek Dorsett charge but will never get called for it because he's undersized.
It just seems like a penalty put in place to keep small dudes from getting injured. Seems like they'll only call it if the result is bad which is stupid. |

Charging injures everyone, even the big guys. I don't think there's a need to eliminate it but you're right often there's another call that can be made on devastating hits.
Some guys play on the edge, but most play within the rules. If you make it a free for all, all kinds of dudes gonna get hurt. |

People need too let go of the LE trade pipedream.
Best case JB has the balls to waive him and then he bolts to the SHL mid-season or next year. |
