Whoever called out Karmanos the other day for being the analytics guy and I corrected them, my bad! Haha I know Sam Ventura is also one of their analytics guys but I didn’t know Karmanos was involved. |

Rask is not good (at least he wasnt with them). I wouldn't be comfortable giving up Rust and a 1st for that. I was thinking more along the line of Rust and Jack Johnson for Jonas Brodin. I think Billy G is too smart to give up Zucker, but might go for the bruiser D and the speedy winger for Brodin. - burgh4life87
I know Rask isn't good but the idea is dumping JJ and salary to make room. I think Rask's deficiencies are easier to mask than JJ's and while he has a bit more of a cap hit, he's signed for one less year...I think.
Your trade is better for the Pens, no doubt. |

PIT actually loses that trade - Feds91Stammer
I agree but having JJ off that back end will help the Pens on ice product immensely IMO. |

I’ll disagree on selling off players though. Can you really rebuild when you have 6 more years out of Parise and Suter?
I’m absolutely convinced that, lockout or no, there will be compliance buyouts when the new CBA is signed. Too many teams have too many bad contracts for there not to be.
One more year and you’re home free. |

Except the players have to agree to player buyouts too and they don’t want them. That doesn’t mean they won’t use it as leverage to get something that want |

xcept the players have to agree to player buyouts too and they don’t want them.
What are you basing this on? 95% of the players would be unaffected. |

I think you might be on to something. It would probably take adding a 1st to get it done, but I don't think Brodin is anything special that they would balk at trading him.
I think we need to get a defenseman back if we are trading JJ and Rust as a package, unless we get no salary back and then sign Gardiner. |

I still think if you trade Rust, you bring in a guy who has a high ceiling like that young Edmonton winger. Bring him in and take a chance. This team needs talented players on affordable deals. Taking a chance on him for a guy like Rust makes sense. I wouldnt trade them 1 for 1, but if the oilers add something (or take Johnson ) I'd do it in a minute. |

I recall reading an interview with Guerin a year or so ago in which he made it pretty clear he wasn’t an “analytics guy.” I believe it was in The Athletic, which I no longer subscribe to, or I’d link to it.
From that day forward, I dreaded the prospect of Billy G becoming Pens GM. Good Luck, but I don’t think he was part of the solution. - Za Warudo
So you believe he doesn't use analytics at all? Or maybe he just meant he doesn't 100% rely on them they way that Ryan Wilson does some people do. |

I may be in the minority, but Puljujarvi is 1 bad season away from being a verified bust. He had trouble making Edmonton last year, and they were awful. It seems like his "compete level" just isn't there.
He's got all the physical tools to succeed and had good numbers for Finland. But if he can't seem to stick on a bad Edmonton team, why would you want him on a team built on winning now? |

Awesome, now we can pull off that Kessel trade with the Wild since Phil is familiar with Bill.
Oh wait... |

I dont think Bill would of changed Kessel's mind on the Wild...he wanted to go somewhere with less limelight, more casinos and warm weather. |

I get what you're saying, but let's look at Justin Shutlz. He could be in the same boat. Plus, if what you're saying is correct, we sign him to a 1 year prove it deal. |

They aren’t even on the same waters let alone on the same boat.
Schultz was producing well in Edmonton and his underlying numbers showed promise. His deployment was just poor. He was being deployed as a #1 pairing D when That’s not what he was capable of.
Puljujarvi Has like 29 points over 111 games. That’s nothing like Schultz.

Well he's a RFA who's yet to sign in Edmonton, so I don't think he's interested in a 1-year prove it deal, otherwise he'd probably have signed for cheap. Also, while his numbers were less than ideal, Schultz cracked Edmonton's roster from a day 1 (aside from the 12/13 lockout).
I'm not saying it's a terrible idea, it's just very risky than you could be trading for a guy who could be out of the NHL by this time next year. |

Brodin is an up and down player who gets the 4th most minutes on the team. He is productive enough and good enough defensively, but he isn't truly spectacular at any one thing. If it took throwing in one of Guerin's favorite prospects I would do it. |

While I agree on this, it is fair to point out Schultz was 22 when he played his first season. Jesse is only 21 now. |
