nah... I wouldn't call him stupid. Steve Simmons is stupid.
but I would question some of Burke's "judgement"... it hasn't exactly always been the best.

kessel was a good player, still is.
in the overall spectrum....but hes a piece you add to help take you to the final step towards the cup. hes a goal scorer, not a team leader or guy you build your team around.
that's why hes stupid. He came in, tried to be a hero with a stupid trade that changed the franchise and it blew up in his face!
I was never a big fan of BB as you can see hah |

I love watching him too, I couldn't imagine playing hockey against him though.
I'm guessing he was a nasty SOB on the ice. - Garnie

Good article that breaks it down but basically says that players with a US residence will really have no difference in pay than if they played in the US. ~~If the bulk of their getting max signing bonus. Which Toronto can do just fine.
"Based on the tax treaty between Canada and the United States, Canada can only tax signing bonuses at a maximum rate of 15%. Therefore, to the extent any income is subject to a maximum of 15% tax in Canada, a player will receive a full credit against their U.S. taxes for this income thus placing them in no worse off position by playing in Canada."

I would like to think this is not true as I have always sort of admired Burke. The problem is, it sure seems like he likes to be negative about the Leafs. - Aetherial
When I'm watching the panels, I usually remark that what some of them are saying is wrong or dumb, but with Burke, I usually only say that when he's commentating about the Leafs.
I tend to agree with him a lot more when he talks about other teams. |

Not all Cdn teams can afford to pay complete salaries in a bonus structure like the leafs though. |

agreed... I wasn't trying to imply Kessel was a bad player... he's definitely a very good one... but Burke's judgement about where the team was, was certainly proven to be flawed.... time and time again.

I'm going out on a limb here...
1) because his evaluation of players and subsequent contracts has been wrong about 75-80% of the time
2) because he's abrasive and opinionated... kinda like Cherry stylistically, which works for a short time in the management office, but really is only suitable for obnoxious TV/Radio host type stuff
3) he can't tie a ...
you know. |

We could be talking about Max Domi's comments, or Puljujarvi signing in Finland, or McDavid's knee.
Or my favourite NFL teams QB suddenly retiring. - Aetherial
Oh, yeah? Well mine apparently turned down a contract that would've given him $30M a season, because they say he wants more.
When in reality, he's barely a $20M QB. |

Burke's Leaf jealousy is absurd! He'll take any opportunity possible to poop on the Leafs and poop on Dubas. He held his envious tongue when Lou was GM but you can bet in private he was trash talking Lou too. |
