Burke's Leaf jealousy is absurd! He'll take any opportunity possible to poop on the Leafs and poop on Dubas. He held his envious tongue when Lou was GM but you can bet in private he was trash talking Lou too. - Njuice
It's nothing compared to Bill Watters' Leafs jealousy. |

agreed... I wasn't trying to imply Kessel was a bad player... he's definitely a very good one... but Burke's judgement about where the team was, was certainly proven to be flawed.... time and time again. - BorjeFan4Ever
In fairness Toskala was not expected be the worst goalie in NHL history(pre-Bernier). The Leafs were never going to be a contender with Kessel though at the time - even without a turbo sieve. But we never should have been bad enough to give the Bruins Seguin at 2nd overall. |

Sort of, we have all the cash for loop holes and still have won jack. - Garnie
we haven't won jack primarily because of inept management and bad, repeatedly awful talent management...
the entire Ballard Era... which really went from unintentionally creating the WHA, losing more players to the WHA and the lingering effects of that, through progressively bringing in Europeans and then chosing to not sign further ones (figure that one out)...
what Burke did was similar - even if the personalities were different.
decades of ineptitude... and wasted talent.... and lots of wasted money...
and the advent of the salary cap which the Leafs really shot themselves in the foot with... totally unprepared for that.
at least at this point the Leafs are paying the most money to the most valuable players

Burkey is definitely envious of the Leafs success which is something he couldn't accomplish as Leafs GM. But he has alot of respect for Lou. Lou was his GM years ago. He always mentions how much he learned from Lou.
Burke likes to say how smart Dubas is before he follows up with a few insults. Which is then followed by saying how smart Dubas is again. He's passive aggressive enough to hide it but the envy and bitterness is definitely there. 😂 |

Poor Oilers. I recall watching this kid dominating at the WJC with Laine and Aho and thinking he'd be a star. |

Go back and watch the games again. You'll see very quickly that Aho is driving everything, Laine is the finisher, and Puljujarvi is just kind of there for the most part. |

Toskala did play poorly in Toronto for sure... but he had help. Luminaries like Komisarek, Brett Lebda (yes Burke signed this donkey as a FreeAgent), the Frogren experiment, Jamie Sifers ... the list goes on.
actually Toskala started out sharing the net the with Raycrap...
how Burke believed that that roster would be competitive by adding Kessel is just silly |

The Leafs signed Borje and Inge while Ballard was in jail. - Atomic Wedgie
ya... I know.
then they had a chance to sign Hedberg and Nilsson about 2-3 years later - when they subsequently joined the Jets... and Ballard wouldn't fork out the money.... such an idiot.
there were other Swedish players which would have been easily convinced to join Salming in Toronto...
then he trades Lanny and eventually Sittler dealt because he doesn't want to pay them.
stupid, senile, greedy old man.
the same ass-clown that chased Keon out of town. |

I still recall as a kid in 1983 watching Harold Ballard on TV being asked if he worried about all the empty seats in Maple Leaf Gardens. He answered "Why should I care? All those seats are paid for." |
