It is a fair point by DCT . I am not sure I agree about moving him in the offseason but I can see a goalie move at TDL
- VANTEL

TDL for sure. Especially if some top teams run into injury problems.

Lack would have been our number 1, so I imagine a significant amount.
- Codes1087

At that point Lack was still OK. Not Good, or great, but I’m sure he could have guided the team to a 28th place finish all the same.

It’s the Twins fault, they wanted a real goalie. Turns out it wasn’t the goaltending that was holding this team back...

I agree 100 % , you can add the Loui signing to their fault also.
Had to surround them with high end talent so we could take a run at the cup

You took a lot of heat for recognizing the future problems of trying to stay competitive by riding out the Sedins for another 6 years. Ironically its the same group of people who have lost their sh!t over Benning stepping in and attempting what you warned them of.

Geezus, this post came with its own knee pads and lip balm.

I was all for trading the twins, but recognized that nobody had the stones to do it.

I hate that the Canucks feel so loyal to players.

That’s one thing Benji has actually had some success on. Garrison, Bieksa, Gagner, Higgins, Kesler*, Edler...Tanev...Sutter...Eriksson... 🤞🏿

You can't say he is wrong . It is exactly what you were crying about

More prospects and high draft picks. Imagine if we didn't lock into surrounding ourselves around the Twins . We could have had McKinnon or McDavid or Matthews Bartok Eichel Ekblad Jones .

Plus the extra picks you wanted from trading the twins. This is exactly what you are complaing about with Benning

Like with Linden and Bure?

IMO, the bigger problem is management often falls in love with the enemy that defeats them. Whether player or system.

Yes, but I never lobbied to keep the twins. I knew management didn’t have the balls to do it and I ain’t surprised.

Trading something as unique as the twins is nothing like the situation we have now.

Holland is going through the same thing Benning went through and is realizing he walked into a Gong Show. Sometimes it takes more than 15 minutes to clean up the mess left by the last administration

Jim can't use that excuse anymore but I have to say I like the look of this years team and I like the future.

They (frank)ed Bure over. Keenan was a jackass (much like Torts), but we got the twins because of him, so...

It’s nothing like a situation any team has ever had. I loved the twins and I miss watching them play. We’ll probably never see two players do hockey the way they did again.

But trying to give them one more kick at the can was clearly a mistake and that’s on this management group. Honestly, the Sedins did this franchise a favour when they decided to retire because I’m sure Benning would have continued giving them contracts for as long as they were able to sign on the dotted line.

Trading first round picks and leaving a void in the prospect pool didn't leave new Benning in a good position.

That excuse is now over and I think we finally have a NHL team

Amen. And it circles around to signings like Miller and LE. Any minuscule benefit they may have brought is crushed under weight of poor managerial judgement.

The twins didn’t need another kick at the can. They had their shots and missed. But we love them anyway.

Go on Vantel, post a pic of your Sedin tramp stamp.

Edit:

And for the record, I thought (hoped) that they had one more shot in them, and I was in favour of the LE signing. But that’s why I make wine and not hockey teams.

We knew at the end of 2012 the team needed to be stripped down . Gillis went on for two more years after that trying to build on the twins .

Along with the Benning signing Trevor Linden best buds with the Twins comes in as president . Good luck with Benning in his first three years asking his boss if he could trade his best buddies and face of the franchise.

It has? That's even funnier. I thought it was a tribute to recent events.

I like its symmetry.
