I figure those 2 will have more points this year than last.
I see the Flames, Jets, Blues, Preds as the western teams in danger of taking steps backwards this year, but I expect the Central to be strong as a whole again. In my mind if we are going to make the playoffs the most likely scenario would have to be us taking Calgarys playoff spot away. I could also see sneaking into the 2nd WC though if multiple Central teams falter. - NorthNuck
San Jose lost Big Joe/Little Joe Nyquist and Donskoi totaling 85 goals and still yet to replace them. They have 4.6 mil in cap room to sign two players. They could take a step back |

My honest take is that once hockey starts that we will see several posters back in the blog.
And the more successful the team is, or more exciting play, we will see a bunch of posters that haven't been around much, it will be a blast from the past.

Fair enough, I still see them making the playoffs though. Still have 2 of the best Dmen in the game and some good forward depth |

Honestly what the blog needs is new people. More people. I used to have a few friends that came on here. They got tired of the toxic environment at times and stopped coming. The comment section doesn't serve the same purpose for everyone. |

I have always liked Hertl and Meier. They took a step forward last season and are probably going to take another step forward this year.
End of last season I looked at where scoring came from BOS, NYI, SJ, WPG and of course VAN
Findings were that they are literally all different.
BOS was very heavy in elite top line scoring.
NYI were very heavy in top 2nd line scoring range with almost two full lines.
SJ was heavy in bottom 1st line forwards, six of them.
WPG was quite even in having 3 top line scorers, 4 mid scorers, 3 3rd line scorers.
Van had no real elite scorers, a trickle of 2nd line scorers and bottom end 3rd line scorers.
If Pearson, Miller, Ferland can get into the 50 point range, Van could have a SJ type look.

Regular season can be masked by a single line high scoring. CGY and there top end scoring plus Tkachuk.
Like having the Sedin's plus Kesler. Van should have better depth if they can make the playoffs. |

2nd in scoring as a team last season. IF they even lose 30 goals they are still 10th in the league.
CGY is the team that I think drops the most points in the division. Lack of depth. Didn't add any quality and chances that Gio has another Norris trophy season, unlikely. |

I think the Flames will start slow as I see Tkachuk holding out, their goaltending is also questionable and will miss the added scoring. SJ I definitely see taking a step back. Vegas could even take a step back, but likely still top 2 in our division. Nashville got stronger with Duchene, and losing Subban won't hurt them IMO. STL will depend on if Bennington is more than a one hit wonder. |

How many of those goals did Nyquist score on the sharks? The only significant hit is Pavelski and Lebanc/Meier will gladly take that icetime and run with it they both only played 15 minutes a piece. Still have better special teams than 90% of the teams in the league and will finish top3 in the pacific easily. Book it. DOnskoi is very replaceable. Nyquist played 20 games and shouldnt be a part of the conversation. They were a top3 western conference team last year and got a little worse. That does not seem like missing the playoffs to me after losing their captain, a role/depth guy and a TDL rental. |

Yeah, and even in the Central, it’s really only the Blues and maybe the Preds.

Is Bachman done? He only played 1 game for the Canucks and 9 for Utica last season. Have to wonder if injuries have finished him off. Would explain Zane Mcintyre being signed as to not have MD and JK two rookies in Utica. |
