don't follow sh/twitter at all - but yes it was hilarious that he was called out that way...

and I don't believe he dials it back... he's more of double and triple down type guy... he will NEVER admit he made the entire crock up...

- BorjeFan4Ever

He didn't make it up though. He was sock-puppeted by Paul Marner and Ferris whenever they had something they wanted to say.

Somehow, and I may be completely wrong, when I look at Dubas, I don't believe he is the type of person to be fooled for even a nano-second by any of this crap.

Brian Burke rules.
He might only be right 30% of the time, but he sells his ideas quite well - plus he was never afraid to take a risk. Rather see a GM to go full on and take a risk than to not take any big decisions at all, and 'not making any mistakes' (not naming any names of other GMs here... )
Hockey is entertaiment, and GMs like Burke make the NHL more entertaining and interesting that most of current risk-averse GMs.
Would love Burke to replace Cherry on HNIC by the way.

- MaximusAurelius

You don't think keeping UFAs for the playoffs like Bozak, JVR and Gardiner was a risk aimed at going for it? Why are Burke's moves 'taking a risk' but Dubas' moves aren't? I'd rather have a guy that trades late firsts and signs Tavares than a guy who trades lottery picks and signs Komisarek.

I agree that Burkie didnt so a great job in Toronto.
Different times and situations though - he didnt have same draft picks and ufa's available.
I was just saying that it was still and entertaining time - it is not as if anything done / not done right now is a guarantee for a SC win..

Well he didn't have those picks available because he traded them and tried to rebuild without them but I agree he's entertaining.

He's smart, he knows full well that Matthew' money can be structured in such a way that taxes don't make a difference, but he also knows the size of the Leafs fanbase and how to get them clicking so he knows what to say.

Exactly.
Plus i have to applaud him that he tried to do a quick rebuild - in my opinion for a team and fanbase like Toronto it's insulting to do a 5-7year rebuild.

It really shouldn't be seen as insulting IMO. It's kind of a reality of the salary cap era. There will be a point for all of us, when our teams will be bottoming out for a few years and trying to stock the prospect pool. I think 5-7 might be a bit much (see NYR quick, albeit lucky rebuild), but 3, maybe 4 years is the harsh reality. The Bruins will be there after the 2021 season.

Well not completely true. You can lower the tax hit by how the contractnis structured but there still a tax difference. Also, i believe in other states you can structure the contract and bonuses to lower the tax hit as well similar to canuckland.

Hate to say it, but Burkie should go, too. He just comes across as an angry contrarian these days. Even though I will ALWAYS love his rented barn comment to Kevin Lowe.
- fifty__missions

Nah. As long as he's not talking about the Leafs, he's pretty great on the Sportsnet panel.

Are you Leaf fans still calling Dreger "Paul" on his twitter? That was hilarious. ☺ It'll be interesting to see if he dials down on the offer sheet talk next season.
- gergeswillems

I think he got tired of being outed as Paul, so he stopped with the offer sheet nonsense this Summer . Or at least in regards to Marner. I'm hoping that the Leafs told Ferris to knock it off, so that's why the Muppet Dreger hasn't been saying it that much lately.

But I fully expect him to do it again next off-season.

Frank that.

He could have had the same draft picks available - but like every other Leafs GM since 1991, he sacrificed the future to pump up the present.

And like every other GM since 1991, he was unsuccessful.

Trading for Kessel was pure vanity by Burke. He could have been patient (like Shanny) and built it slowly but surely, but instead he traded away two firsts and a second to get a winger to play with Matt Franking Stajan.

And the worst part was Cammaleri actually went down to 40 Bay Street on July 1st - I literally mean it - he went there in person and tried to work out a contract. Burke told him to go frank himself.

Think about how it would have been different if we had Cammi at centre. We wouldn't have handed over Tyler Seguin to the Bruins.

Frank Burke.

Are you on franking crack cocaine?

You know what's insulting to a fanbase? Not being in even the franking finals since 1967.

It's insulting to continuously sacrifice the future by trading for middling middle-aged former stars, knowing you will never actually reach the finals.

Jeezuz.

Just sign Marner to a 8year deal at 11.5mln.
Leafs are ok on FW - have quite a bit of depth; just trade Johnsson or Nylander to make room if necessary.

- MaximusAurelius

I would but I can't afford to pay him.
