This is a nice little deal. Get equal draft value for a player you are going to cut, plus a Super Sabres Special, 6th for a 7th. Gives Beane a total do-over to hopefully find another Matt Milano

I think there's a good chance that if Mittelstadt is better (50-55) this year, they eclipse the 90 point barrier.

But I think it's crazy to say an 85 point season is anything other than a disappointment and more of the same

Yeah, I think there is a small chance this team could have 95 points. Mostly, Dahlin has the potential to turn into a top 5 NHL defenseman at any point, and when that happens, you aren't going to suck. Those guys at worst are on average teams.

If they get 85 points though it means the season was a colossal waste of time.

It is a good move. But I think it's equally likely that those picks are used to move up in the draft. Beane really likes to do that.
