To fit his likely cap number, you'd probably need to trade Provorov or Konency + Sanheim. - Feanor
I think there are a lot of other options than just that. Making Ghost part of the deal would surely alleviate some of the cap issues on our end. You might have to make TK part of the deal and replace him with Farabee or Frost but to gain Liane.... that's a sacrifice I'm thinking long and hard about. |

I'm surprised that the area around West Chester can support another rink. I used to work near Ice Line and would occasionally play open hockey during my lunch break there. As I recall they had 3 or four rinks. I usually played at places like Wintersports, Old York Road and Wissahickon. IceLine was like a palace compared to those places. - Dkos
Better than the Skatium, though. The area near the corner on the zamboni gate side was kinda treacherous.... bumpy ice. |

Exactly. Thanks Bill.
I think it's telling that Laine had more ice time per game last season than the year before, yet managed fewer goals, points, hits, takeaways, and a much worse shot differential, even relative to his teammates. - BINGO!
I think it comes down to motivation with laine. He made it and made an impact. Giving him the money he's asking for seems like a recipe for disaster.
Yes he can shoot the puck. But if that is it and he continues with other inconsistencies this may be one of the biggest pay days he receives.
He scored 50 points last year but was a minus 24. I know stats like this aren't everything......but that is not promising.
I remember an audio clip of big buff yelling at him during a shift. Move...you have to move skate. |

JVR just got a boatload of money for being a 30 goal scorer. Laine has been over 30 goals every season of his career, how has he not proven he is an effective scorer? I get that the brutal half season can raise a couple of questions, but then he put up 4 points in 6 games in the playoffs.
He's only 21, if you want to lock someone up like him long term it's going to cost money. - 2sticks1puck

Why can't he get better? Did we not just discuss TK playing better defensively? To scoff about adding Laine to the team because of his defensive issues is ridiculous. |

Never said he wouldn't improve. Just pointing out he is young and probably doesn't have the best motivation. I don't know the guy so i have no clue. But it would be a concern of mine if we are trading other players i feel are more well rounded, when our team defense needs to improve first.
Konecny was on a team that didn't make the playoffs, had one less point and was a minus 4.
As a manager i always say give me the person with a good attitude. I can train them to do the job if they have the right attitude. Bad attitudes cause problems |

Didn't say wasnt effective scorer...said its unknown if he is an elite scorer. Based on your comments to date, its clear you have the acumen to know that. The whole conversation stems from people speculating a team should trade a boatload for him...then sign him to top 5-10 type money and then Hope he scores at elite pace and his other deficiencies get better or don't hurt you.
That is just a lit to ask of a team that is at the point we are at. we aren't one player away.....yet. If this was a debate centered around if the Peg should pay him...then maybe im more in line with you. - juiced
You're on point in my opinion. Can't blow up your cap. Flyers need to follow the process, let their prospects develop. |

TK cares to get better. Does Laine? He seems pretty immature. |

I don't think any of us can answer that but I'd think he wants to be a better player, maybe needs the right coach or guy to take under their wing. |

Hard to say. Even when watching players it's pretty tough to judge where their motivations lie.
With some like Aho, it's easy to see them constantly striving to improve. When they miss an assignment you can see them get visibly upset by it and they come back on the next shift pissed off.
That, to me, doesn't look like Laine, but I haven't seen enough to say anything about it really. |

The following quote kinda summed it up for me:
"I'm not worrying about that at all," [Laine] told Sportsnet. "I know that I have done my job as well as I can over these three years, so I know I am going to play somewhere next year, so that's not something I am thinking about too much."
Doesn't really sound like a guy who realizes he has things to work on, or even cares if he's back with his team or not. |

So Ghost and of one TK/Frost/Farabee (and possibly more) AND a $10M+ cap hit for Laine...no thanks. |

Aho is a special player, but I'd also say one thing the Canes have done, is establish a good culture of leadership. I think Aho wants to get better on his own, but I don't think your locker room or coaching staff would allow him to slip. Justin Williams was such an A+++ signing for you in multiple ways.
I wonder how much of Laine's attitude struggles are partly due to leadership. I can't say that I know enough about their locker room, but is anyone really stepping up in that regard? People forget that a lot of these guys are kids, what 20 year old DOESN'T want to play Fortnite? Laine might be someone who needs someone to challenge him. |

When I think about a pure shooter that might fit in with our young core, I think more of the Jeff Carter or Simon Gagne types that are defensively aware. Not to say Laine can’t change but that isn’t readily apparent in his game up to the present. The Flyers have so many forward prospects who project to be ready in the next few years. Who’s to say one of them isn’t going to be a 40-goal/yr gem?

That's fair. I like Maurice, but I don't know if there's anyone in that entire Winnipeg organization who has a commanding presence like Brind'amour does. Giving Brindy the reins and having an owner holding everyone accountable changed everything. |

I said Ghost/TK. Not sure where you're getting Frost and Farabee from but I wouldn't do that.
Ghost/TK is a fair offer to consider imo. I can see the value to making the trade or not making it and keeping what we have. |

I guess that area around West Chester is pretty well populated and affluent. It just surprised me that there would be enough business for another rink especially considering that Ice Line has 3 or 4 skating surfaces. |

I don’t think I’ve ever played at the Skatium, but I’ve played in plenty of poopholes in my day. Ha ha. I started playing in the 70s and gave it up about 5 years ago. As far as bad ice I think Old York Road was the worst. They had water dripping from the ceiling creating divots and wet spots on the ice. |

I don't know if anyone here still plays the EA NHL games (I haven't bought one in two or three years now) but it's so comical how off they are on the player ratings when they get released. |
