I am not sure Willie D is a true Benning hiring. Back then Canucks were still paying Torts his big salary and I bet Bennings expense budget to find a new coach was equivalent to the salary of a Walmart greeter.
I know the big hopes that year was to hire Trevor Benning and Dejardins . I think it was predetermined by ownership who would be filling those spots. - VANTEL
Wasn't Willie a Trevor signing? Prior to Benning being hired? |

So Green wants set lines. Training camp is going to be a real fight for roles. |

I don't remember what came first but I thought it was Tervor then JB then WD. Again I think they were all more Aquilini's choices.
I can't see a new Pres wanting to hire a GM with no previous experience , then the new GM wanting to hire a choach with no previous experience. |

Linden hired Willy before Benning iirc. So glad Linden left because he didnt like the direction the Canucks were going.

It’s possible for sure, but I doubt FA knew much about WD at all. I would be surprised if he followed AHL/WHL hockey much. |

narratives.
Now, Desjardins gets the chance to do it for the first time in the NHL. He joins a management group led by ex-player Trevor Linden, who was out of hockey six seasons before taking the job as Canucks president in the final weeks of the season, and first-time general manager Jim Benning, who was hired a month ago after spending the previous eight seasons as an assistant GM with the Boston Bruins.

I wouldn’t read too much into that.
Of course every coach wants set lines, they only resort to mixing them up when injuries hit or the team is struggling to produce offense. |

I dunno man, although unlikely I could see Green getting canned and JB staying. JB has the vote of confidence from management thanks to drafting EP BB and QH. Being out of a playoff spot in January or February would definitely mean they both go in my mind, but should we fall just short in the last couple of weeks I could see Green leaving and JB staying - NorthNuck
With all the changes to the roster and good performance by the young core JB probably will give Green a couple more years to show what he can do with this new group. |

Not a fan of Green nor am I against him. He had a sh1t team for two years. Lets see what he does with a NHL roster this year. I don't know if he will have a good year or not but he has no excuse and the same with Benning.
I don't think ownership is waiting for fail. I think they are planning ahead and if Benning or Green are not qualified then they will do something.
I like the improvements |

I’m not sure how much I buy into FA being cheap. The Canucks are one of the top teams in the league when it comes to expenses outside of the NHL roster. That’s one area FA is actually a plus for us. |

I don't think he is cheap . He was still paying Torts 2 mil to do nothing . I don't think he wanted to hire a high end coach or high end GM when the old core was coming to an end.
I think he wanted to try all new people. I am just guessing same as everyone here. We will never know what actually happened. |

Over and over FA has shown he's anything but cheap with his NHL team. From expensive free agents to his demoting players and firing staff with heavy term left. Very common during his ownership and will have to continue as well...

Yeah, I could see that. I feel like he went all in on moneypuck and got bored/frustrated so he decided to go on a complete opposite direction with 3 old school eye test guys.
I feel like you need the right balance of both in this day and age. |
