The Patriots have the best QB of all time comparing anything they do to what the Bills do is crazy
The Bills have spent money on their OL
They don't have to spend money on their QB at the moment because he is on his rookie deal
So if you have the ability to spend it without it hurting your ability to pay said QB when his rookie deal expires why wouldn't you? - Stripes77
No, it's part of the Patriots plan. It's also just about everyone else's plan.
There is no way I'd want to give up significant assets to get Zeke (who is excellent) or Gordon (who had similar stats as his backup and has injury concerns) and then pay them a ton of cash to not perform measurably better than replacement level. Every year we see third round draft picks become stars. You can find them anywhere. |

That was essentially one play. The Giants were able to pressure Brady up the middle. That's why they won.
Defense and running game still ultimately wins you Championships. The difference is that now this is a league where the passing game is what gets you there. - buffalofan19
The Giants D played well, but the giants rushed for under 50 yards. Running did not win them the game. Defense I agree played a big part, but that throw and catch is why they won the superbowl |

They held Brady to 14 points because they had two bookend pass rushers and could afford to get after the passer with 4 guys and not bringing a rush. - Swedish_Jesus
Exactly - you spend the money on playmakers. Running back is not a playmaking position and hasn't been for a long time. |

The Patriots have the best head coach of all time, who happens to be a defensive minded head coach. Brady is the best QB of all time no question though but that was just a perfect match made in heaven. |

Why would you order a rice and bean burrito from Taco bell though? Gordita crunch or quesadilla is where it's at |

Let me put all of this a different way. If Zeke was on the street and I get him for nothing and then sign him to a 3 year, 30 million dollar contract would I do it? Yes, I would. I don't have to pay Allen for a bit and Zeke is a premier player in the league. Would I trade a ton of assets and then have to pay him 6 years for 70 mill? Nooooooooooo. |

You're confusing what McCoy and his $9 million did last year to what those two RBs did
I can agree with you about not spending assets to acquire them.
I can agree about Gordon's injury concerns
I am not sending 1st round picks for them, but if you think you'll get the same production from a 3rd rounder than what those 2 bring you're out of your mind.
Btw Gordon's back ups when he was injured none of them had over 100 total yards of offense in any of those games the highest game total was 90 they averaged closer to 83 yards
Gordon averaged 115 total yards per game including the game he left early when he got hurt

You can get that kind of production out of a 3rd round back. It happens all the time. Would it really surprise you if Singletary outrushed pro bowl backs this year? |

No it doesn't that's the thing, because 3 RBs drafted in the 3rd people think that's the normal
Kamara, David Johnson and Hunt
The others:
Gurley 1st rounder
Gordon 1st rounder
Ingram 1st rounder
McCoy (when he was good) 1st rounder
McCaffrey 1st rounder
Bell 2nd rounder
Mixon 2nd rounder
Barkley 1st rounder
Zeke 1st rounder
The top 4 RBs in all purpose yards from last season were drafted in the 1st round, and 2 of them had over 2000 all purpose yards and McCaffrey missed it by 5 yards |

Phillip Lindsay is the exception but not the rule as you just mentioned. |

Yeah I mean there are always going to be some exceptions but this notion that you can get good RBs in the 3rd all the time is wrong
You can get average RBs sure but until Allen shows me he can be a stud QB and only needs an average running game I want better than average |

Terms for the #Seahawks trade for Jadeveon Clowney: Seattle gets Clowney, the #Texans get a third-round pick, LB Jacob Martin, and pass-rusher Barkevious Mingo, source said. |

Sure, you just don't do it with big money backs. That ship sailed for a reason. Gordon had similar stars as his backup. Same with Bell in pittsburgh. Don't get caught up in brands. - Slump Buster
This guy gets it. Unless the back is a HOF-talent, you're better off just investing the big money/high picks on other positions. It's easier for a strong o-line/QB to make a mediocre RB look good, more than it is for a top RB to make a mediocre QB/O-Line look good. |

Dudes like Kamara, Gurley(when healthy), Barkley, etc. are definitely exceptions to the rule. But I would not spend a high draft pick trading for Melvin Gordon and then signing him to a new contract. He's a very good back, but not a game breaking talent. |

You're implying that Prescott isn't a decent qb. We will soon find out. Now only 9 back making more than 6 mill a year. You must know something that everyone else does not. - Slump Buster
Dak is average in my opinion.
Never have I been overly impressed with his QB play. |

I feel like he's an Alex Smith type, he can get you into the playoffs and keep you competitive every year since he's a smart QB, but he needs weapons and a defense around him for a SB
