Carol Schram: NHL doesn't re-open CBA, Brock Boeser's dad progressing after health scare Now that the NHL has elected not to re-open the Collective Bargaining Agreement, the players will have two weeks to decide whether to follow suit and extend labour peace, or use their power to trigger a potential strike. Plus, an update on Brock Boeser's father Duke, who is marking remarkable progress after suffering a serious cardiac incident earlier this month.

Time for the kids to cave in and sign some contracts. You see players that signed years ago Hall, Mackinnon, Schiefele, Monahan, Ehlers, Forsberg, Tarasenko all had fair contracts now and are probably a bit under paid a few years later. None of them were demanding 10 million plus per year a few years ago.

Come beginning of camp, can see a few of them settling on more fair shorter term deals. Both sides want it done.

Think Marner will be the biggest hold out.

Horrific crash at Spa-Francorchamps this morning took the life of 22 year old Frenchman Anthoine Hubert.

Apologies for another NFL post, but the Hawks released Geno Smith - no backup QB on the roster

I don't understand why the players get so bent out of shape about escrow. Doesn't the 15% get paid out after confirmation that revenues hit the targets needed for that year's cap? They only lose that money if revenues fall short.

I'm not exactly sure, but wouldn't you be upset if your employer didn't reach its sales goals so just kept 15% of your paycheck? I think most people would.

That's not what happens though. If your compensation includes a bonus or profit sharing if your employer hits certain sales levels, and then doesn't hit those sales levels, do you think you've been cheated when you don't get paid the bonus?

The difference with the players is that their bonus is assumed, paid as salary and clawed back if the targets aren't met. I'd expect the amount paid back to the players out of escrow is proportional as well, rather than an all or nothing situation.

I'm just surprised we haven't seen a more detailed explanation of how the escrow arrangement actually works. Especially now that it's supposed to be the hot button that may trigger a push by the players to renegotiate the CBA.
