I really don’t think it’s too hard to see that GMs and agents go by cap percentages to figure out contracts.

13 million would be Mcdavids cap percentage so yeah Matthews would of gotten a tad less. Probably 12.75.

Plus the projected cap was 83 million. So maybe it would have been nicer to wait until the offseason to sign him as we probably would of gotten him at a bit less since the cap was lower than expected.

According to Bob Mackenzie's speculation, it was the ballpark for an 8 year deal. The word was that Matthews' was down for an 8 year deal, but worked to come up with a lower dollar figure over a shorter term to "help".

The whole Ceci thing kinda seems like an error at this point lol. Without him things would be less complicated and he's basically a replacement level player by all indication.

Dubas was fine with 5. He will be canned well before the end of the Matthews deal anyway and he knows it. Can’t be that soft in management, employees are not your friends Kyle.

Would enjoy that just to see all the agents/teams that are waiting on the Marner contract before singing their RFA deals to scramble at the last minute.

They're most likely gonna have to cave in before Marner gets his.

And at that point, Marner can feel good about himself that he'll get a lot more than all of them, even if he doesn't get nearly what was wanted.
