They're most likely gonna have to cave in before Marner gets his.

And at that point, Marner can feel good about himself that he'll get a lot more than all of them, even if he doesn't get nearly what was wanted.

I wanna see what Laine gets. That's got to be the hardest contract of them all to figure out after his pretty mediocre season.

If Marner is unsigned 5 games into then season, then I'll be worried.
- AdamFrench

For absolutely no reason I will say if he doesn't sign by the start of the year he's either gonna have to sign for way less than he wanted or sit for the year. Seems to be a losing situation for him the longer he waits.

Laine will sign a one year deal worth 7.5M and will have to prove himself to get a long term deal

I think Laine needs a uniquely structure deal. 15mil for the first few months, then 0 for the next few, then 6mil to end the year.

Dubas can't let the tail wag the dog. Fair but firm has to be his position.

Only to trade him for way less than he's worth like they did with Trouba?

the league needs to move to a model where players are paid based on production. we need to see teammates fighting each other for points. tapping in pucks that are already going in leading to scrums would be epic.

That seems to make by far the most sense which makes the fact that he's still unsigned pretty confusing

He had only one good month, and it was a really good month goal-wise, but outside of it, he was replacement level.

I'd be shocked if it's not a bridge deal. But I hope Winterpeg gives him a long term deal worth a whole lot of $$$, because I think they'd regret it almost immediately.

It remains to be seen if Laine also thinks it makes sense.

Or does he go the "Prove myself? I've scored 36, 44 and 30 goals since I joined this league!" route.

Indeed.

If he ended last season the way he started it, he would have scored what? 60 goals?

Yup. And he had 2 hattricks and a 5 goal game. That's 11 of his 30 goals on the season in 3 games.

Incredible month on a horrible season.

First interview after the signing. Said he wanted 8 but as we all know there’s a cap that teams have to work with so he settled for 5.

Keep playing Howard?

Or just recruit me to do the draft lottery simulator and get them at #1. I'm on a roll getting teams into the top 3 picks.

Love how Carey Price is still coasting on his one unreal season. Best goalie in NHL20.

Laine will move on from Winnipeg as soon as he can. One of the very best pure goal scorers in the League and not even in his prime yet. Incredible that the Jets with many older core players move Trouba out for a questionable return. It would have been far better IMO to move older and broken down Byfuglien out over Trouba.
