I don't know if I fit into any of these. The guy has been a warrior for us and never had the chance to grow into a role. That said... I still think there is low hockey IQ here and you really can't overcome that. - Slump Buster

What number is "trade him for Kase and I dont care if he does well or not" |

And you're a #5 😀😀😀😀😀 - Boss34
Mostly correct, actually. I can't skate nearly well enough to play hockey at any sort of elevated level. And boy do I want Risto traded.
I like to think that you don't need to be a hockey genius on this one though. Risto fails the eye test and the analytics test. This isn't a tricky one. |

You don't have to be a genius to see that risto is an offensive defenseman who scores 40 points regularly on a terrible team.
Eye test is subjective. Especially with the lack of any sort of elevated hockey background.
Risto had a bad year defensively.
His value is low
He is still relatively young and under a good contract.
I like the guy, but I can see why (after last season) you would hope to move him. Especially with dahlin about to be the #1 |

Risto's 40 points on the back end can easily be replaced by Dahlin adding 10-20 more points, and each d-man adding an additional what, 5 points more? With the minutes evenly distributed, it's not crazy to think that maybe some of those points would go around... He plays a lot. His numbers are inflated because of it.
We don't need scoring on the back end. We need defense. He does not provide that.
I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that we should try to flip him to New Jersey for Hall in some sort of deal.
New Jersey is an historically defensive town, however, they added Subban, Vatanen in the off-season... they could possibly try to replicate the San Jose model if they swung for Risto because Hall seems to have no interest in signing long-term.
I honestly think this could be a 1f1 trade since Risto has term left and Hall doesn't. Swap some picks or prospects to sweeten the deal. |

Hahaha okay buddy. If I'm New Jersey, I ask if Botts is running a fever, he calls and offers Risto for Hall straight up. No chance he resigns there. |

Risto...
Pach - you are generous in your placement of Risto, although I do like and agree to the pairing with McCabe ...so just knock those two down to 3rd Pairing and all is well.
I'd prefer for him to be traded, like for Mantha would be decent.
However, I'm ok if they try to rescue his career under Krueger.
The only flip side to that is that if it fails, be prepared to get value like a 3rd liner in return.
It's a gamble.
Montour, Miller are fine 2nd Pairing Dmen.
Risto isn't a 1st pairing, more a 2nd / 3rd tweener.
Montour and Miller can replace his PP time and most of his points on said PP
That leaves Risto with about 22 5v5pts
At $5.4m for a 3rd Pairing Dman trying to be rescued career wise...he really should be moved
Jokiharju at $950 can replace him.
People who say they don't care about the Stats, should also then not care about his 43 Pts and evaluate his play by the eye test to see how defensively deficient and to see how low his hockey IQ is based on the same lunk-head plays he makes.
To answer the question of who I'd rather face in the corner between him and Dahlin...Risto all day, yup he may hit me hard, but chances are I'll retain the puck and be able to lose him on the way to the net...Dahlin steals the puck and buries me in the corner 15 feet behind the play.

Yes, their end. There is no way they trade a former mvp in his prime for our spare part, even if Hall only has a year. I suspect any trade offer from us would start with Rhino or Mitts.

Agreed. Even at the deadline Hall would likely still fetch 2 1st rounders or a first and a top prospect. NJ isn't going to trade him for anything less before then.
Yous start a deal for Hall with a Joker, 6K, or Mittelstadt and add to it from there. |

Ion, aren't you in your 50's?
Chances are risto hits you hard, takes the puck and you go back to watching the game on your huge TV.
Probably very uncomfortable for a while. |

The first game against Tampa, Risto did play really well and shut him down.
The other 3 well not so much - Stripes77

Anything that helps Ristolainen by reducing his role or giving him easier minutes will be offset by playing hundreds of less minutes with Jack Eichel and Skinner.
They’re will be no difference |

And on the flip side
Jack Eichel’s most common D he’s played with last three seasons
Ristolainen
McCabe
Bogosian
It’s about to be
Dahlin
Montour
Miller/Jokiharju
Expect a jump from #9 |

For both parties.
26 will get secondary assists while 9 feeds Skinner or the other winger. |

Hopefully with Kreuger here and the additions made on offense with Vesey and Mojo, people will realize that Risto has not been the problem over the years. When you play with a bunch of forwards that don't back check and defensive partners who are always out of position, it's hard to look good.
People bring up the -41 for Risto over and over again. Well, Drew Doughty was a -34 and out of his 45 points (2 more than Risto in 4 more games) only 20 came at even strength.
If people think Risto is an overpaid 2nd/ 3rd pairing power play specialist at $5.4m then I guess Doughty at $11m for 8 more years and being 5 years older must really be overpaid. |
