Hopefully with Kreuger here and the additions made on offense with Vesey and Mojo, people will realize that Risto has not been the problem over the years. When you play with a bunch of forwards that don't back check and defensive partners who are always out of position, it's hard to look good.
People bring up the -41 for Risto over and over again. Well, Drew Doughty was a -34 and out of his 45 points (2 more than Risto in 4 more games) only 20 came at even strength.
If people think Risto is an overpaid 2nd/ 3rd pairing power play specialist at $5.4m then I guess Doughty at $11m for 8 more years and being 5 years older must really be overpaid. - adambuffalo
Wanna guess who his most common forward is? Since 2016-17
1. Sam Reinhart
2. Jack Eichel
3. Kyle Okposo
4. Ryan O’Reilly
Stop with the nonsense (not directed solely at you)
He plays with our best players WAY MORE than the bad ones |

The more he plays with Dahlin the better - Stripes77
You can say that about anyone with dahlin
No joke. Bogo played a more defensive role with dahlin and would give dahlin d to d passes and let him break out. People said bogo “looked good” last year doing that |

That's a lot of excuses for one post. Thinking he could improve in a better situation is fair. If you don't think he's been a big part of the problem, given his ice time and performance, then no one is.

I think we're just waiting for Chiarelli to get his next gm job (which he will, of course) |

So it's easier to play with more talented players? Interesting. |

Just saw that Hawerchuk is taking a leave of absence for health issues. Not sure the issue, but thought I mention it so you all can keep him in your thoughts and prayers (not meant to be a religious post) |

That’s why we need to move Risto. We need more offensive talent. Our lines right now are still very weak. |

Ion, aren't you in your 50's?
Chances are risto hits you hard, takes the puck and you go back to watching the game on your huge TV.
Probably very uncomfortable for a while. - Boss34
Lol
61 actually
6'5" 265.
Still work out a bit
Can skate ok
He would embarrass himself...and if he did destroy me, I have the age excuse...lol!
He is a wussy except for playing Ovi and Kuch.
He should sign up for the KHL so he can play a boatload of Ruskies every game |

100% agreed. But more to the point, what the Risto defense boils down to is "he was on a bad team, the other players are bad, ergo he isn't bad." Whaaa?
We don't use this nonsense argument for any other player. Scandella is bad because he is bad, not because he was on a bad team. Matt Hunwick doesn't deserve a chance to prove himself on a more talented roster.
When a team is bad, you can still use your brain. Rasmus Dahlin was on an awful team, was only 18, had one of the worst coaches ever, never had the same partner consistently, and couldn't even speak english, and he was ...really good. Because he is good. The eye test says he is good and the analytics test says he was elite. Bad team is irrelevant. |

Risto is tough no doubt...he'd kick my arse.
I wish he actually played physically more than 10 games a year.
It will be interesting to see if Krueger can whisper in his ear to get a vastly needed improvement. |

Yup, and in most cases, those other players don’t get 1/2 the ice time with our best players as Risto gets.
Dude is a 3-5 D man depending on the team.
He wants to move on. Grant him his wish |

I think he feels entitled to top pair minutes, top PP, and to be on the ice in all key situations. If you start cutting into that, I think you have issues....like we're seeing now.
