with Gardiner now signed in Carolina, I'm completely guessing (AND NOT IN FAVOUR OF!!!) but I predict we now trade Ehlers to Carolina for a D.
possibly;
-Faulk and a prospect
-Pesce straight up
-two prospects like Necas and Bean

this woulkd then free up some extra cash and we will sign both Connor and Laine to long term deals, no bridge deals.

again, just guessing, not suggesting

The logical thing would have been to hand out 4 x 4.5 and sign Gardiner.

Assuming he would have taken that here is a large assumption

In 2 months of free agency 4 million a year was all he got. He took the offer that gave him the most money, if the Jets offered up 2 million more over 4 years, he was taking it.

I didn't check but are those guys playing as top pairing and big minutes each game while seeing little to no PP time? Morrissey's value goes way up if he has similar performance this year without Trouba as linemate. I see offensive upside with JoMo still developing, should hit 50 pts sometime in the next few years.

Those guys played fairly similar roles and TOI within their teams. It would be very difficult to find better comps signed this offseason. JOMO is easily my favourite LD on this club, and has been for the past 2-3 years. But I do not see the same offensive upside. He will be paired with Buff who is good for 50 points/82 games, which has helped him slightly (although JoMo has bumped between pairings and Buff was injured alot), but I honestly see him as being a perennial 35 point guy with great shutdown capabilities. I see his as an Enstrom 2.0. Reliable, responsible, and a good puck moving D. To hit 50 points as a D is a very hard feat. I doubt Trouba hits 50 again, especially wearing a rangers jersey. I think something like 6 years at 6M AAV. Regardless, we both agree he needs to be paid and stay a jet long-term.

Ya that was a great deal for Carolina. Gards has his defensive woe's, but is very capable offensively. I was assuming he would get 6M+. Carolina already had a stacked RD, so great addition on the left. Adding Dzingle and Gards for a comined 7.8MAAV is fantastic!

I feel like the Jets also missed the boat on Sheahan. At 900k, he is a proven workhorse. A poor mans Lowry. They play a similar game, with similar results, and adding him to the bottom 6 would have provided more flexibility down the middle to better explore Ras and Appleton on the wings.

Josh's points should spike this year, not that it's all about points.

What's the over/under on Buff playing 60 games? Last year Trouba filled in the power play, this year should be Josh. He can QB a PP although he doesn't have the big shot.

Need to sign him long term asap

With Gardiner in Carolina, maybe it's a omen of things to come. Pesce++ to the Jets for Laine? See if the Canes will give him the $10 mill it is rumored he thinks he's worth. We desperately need a RH d-man!

Would set the team up cap wise - and have a better team on the ice.

Here is hoping, that everything you are saying is true!

I love Josh Morrissey! He is a true example of a player who elevates his line mates. Everyone he plays with naturally becomes better.

Who would come out of the lineup for Sheahan? Appleton? Vesalainen? Sheahan would be fine but the internal options are there already.

No need for Sheahan with what’s already on the roster plus the Stempniak PTO.

For everyone saying Sheahan would be a good signing, there would be another one or two saying "What for?" - me included. Whose spot is he going to take? Thinking we have enough forward depth, but D?

We obviously need to make a deal - or two?

Chevy needs to tie up his boat and close up the West Hawk Cottage.

I’m excited to see Poolman and Niku get playing time. I’m far from panicking about D, it’s a long season and changes can be made. I’m more worried about Maurice playing Bellieau and kulikov over Niku and Poolman

Not necessarily talking about Sheahan, was talking about Cheveldayoff generally. Seems like he is afraid to make a bold move and when he does make trades he gets ripped off. For some reason or another, it appears as if our GM missed the course on effective asset management.

These are some great deductions! I am in favor of trading one of our elite wingers. We need a legit #1 center and/or a legit #1 defense man. The stat that's most glaring about Ehlers is 0. 0 goals in 21 playoff games.

I love Ehlers, but his disappearing act in the playoffs is very Alexander Semin-esque.

- TheUltimateJet

Ehlers offers roughly the exact same number of shots and scoring chances in the playoffs as he does during the regular season. He was actually shooting way more this past season, while on a broken leg.

Making bad decisions on small, unlucky sample sizes is very Chiarellian of you

How big of a sample size do you suggest he get in the playoffs? One can only play a max of 28 games per playoffs!

Furthermore, Ehlers has been in 4 playoff series against 4 different opponents. I could accept your argument if he was unlucky against a particular team, but against all 4 of them he has faced?
