After 5-14-6 were picked, the #leafs had the highest chance of getting McDavid heading to last ball: TOR (4x), BUF (3x), EDM (2x) CAR, CBJ.

That's what? 36ish%?

Is that counting a Marner holdout?

That's bound to cost a few points no?

- Scabeh

Marner CANNOT hold out. Leafs HAVE to sign him. If he holds out, the first year of the contract goes up Cap-wise. (pro-rated)....The Leafs simply have no space to fit in an inflated contract THIS year. Marner will sign in training camp or during the first week of the season....if it goes longer....it is desperate times!!!!

Can we just all agree that this season is just another wasted Leafs season because its inevitable we play Boston in round 1 and lose in 7 games again.

What if we lose in 6? Does it become a successful season? I mean we still lose in the first round, but we lose faster..

thank you for pointing out the Andersen's norm is on par with Bob's "down year"........like i said, if he's a question mark in Fla, then you guys are (frank)ED in goal.

Bob is BY FAR the better goalie.......so like i said, if you're questioning Bob in Florida, then you should be terrified at your goalie situation.

- haywoodjablome

if you are saying these are on par I dont know what to say

sv %
.913 vs .917

Goal saved above average
5.27 vs 14.48

quality starts
50.8% vs 63.3%

They have the best offense and goalie.

Hedman was concussed and struggled when he came back too soon.

Tampa will win the cup this season.

They also have the best use of cap space locking up their top talent at unfair, no state income tax rates.

except Marner camp has gone on the record several times that they were willing to sign a deal before start camp last season. Dubas just didn't come up with the right proposal..
- MaximusAurelius

IF the criteria was met. Which it obviously wasn't.

Nylander was signed on what? December 1st? Matthews signed on February 5th.

And since Marner's camp said they wouldn't negotiate during the season, the Leafs were forced into this waiting game.

Marner was definitely willing to sign for way less than 11million last season.
That's my whole point.
Dubas waited too long - being cheap not wanting to give him 8million AAV on a long term deal. Now he'll have to pay 2-3million AAV extra at least on a long term deal.

We can go back to last year's threads and discussions about Marner's contract value then if you want. (quite a few people then advocated for a similar deal for Marner as Nylander would get (then still unknown figure)).

- MaximusAurelius

Some different defense this year and some new assistant coaches, but if we keep getting outshot on a 2:1 ration almost every game and burning Andersen out, there's going to be more heat on Babcock's shoulders.

Even in a down year, Bobrovsky would be a huge improvement over Reimer and 40 year old Luongo.

How can it even be debatable that they got better?

- Scabeh

I can agree they improved, I am not sure yet they got "wayyyyyy" better

Lunongo had a poop season, but he was great the 3 seasons before that.

Florida had 86 points last season.. lets credit Bob with adding 10 alone. thats 96 points. i dont see them up with the Leafs

They weren't.
Dubas got his priorities wrong.
Should have signed Marner first before last season's training camp; 8x8.5mln AAV.
But he lowballed him because Marner was always very explicit that's it's a childhood dream come true to play for the Toronto Maple Leafs - trying to take advantage of that sentiment.
It's sad to see that Dubas gives 3rd liners 3-3.5mln and makes their contracts a priority, while he doesn't get the right deal done with the best Toronto born young player that's been on the Leafs in last 20+ years.

I know you're making up these numbers, and there is absolutely no truth to what you're saying, but it would be great if we could have signed Marner to an 8 yr deal at $8M per season.

Holy (frank), man.

How many times do you need to be told that Marner's camp was adamant on being the last to sign. They were NOT gonna sign before the other two.

Also, glad to see you're still awful at evaluating players that you don't personally like.

Who are former Senators?

Seems like a fun game of jeopardy...

James Reimer and Brock McGinn
