I wonder how 31 compares to this same stat league wide. Outside of what 2 seasons since 2000 we have been mediocre to historically horrible |

What is funny is trying to justify a player who's main job description is defensively-based, according to their offensive production, when many of said points are generated while the other team is aplaying in their own zone while being a man short. In the meantime, said player records league low +/- rating at -40+ and earns the Green Jacket award...all the while, 2 teammates who have 75%+ defensive zone starts click in with an average -10 on the +/- scale.
The faster they trade him, the better for this team. - IonSabres
The funny thing is he’s produced offensively because he’s gotten PP time with our best players in Eichel, Sam ROR etc.

Ristolainen is an above average offensive defenseman. (True)
Ristolainen plays too many minutes. (True)
Ristolainen is physical. (True)
Ristolainen has no defensive awareness. (True/Debatable)
*Note that his front of net presence is atrocious. Yeah he hits guys and clears the net, but he completely ignores the puck and the play*
Ristolainen is a second-pairing guy or a #3 defenseman. That is his ceiling. I do believe he is worth a 2nd line center. There are 6 defense spots to 12 offense spots. A top-3 defenseman is worth a top-6 forward.
If traded, he needs to bring a top-6 forward without question, beyond a shadow of a doubt.
The real problem here is that there are very few, if any, ideal trade partners who need scoring help on the back end, but also can afford to lose a top-6 forward.
Vegas, Dallas, Vancouver? I honestly don't think there's a realistic trade out there, especially seeing as Taylor Hall is supposedly going to get TWO 1st round picks at the trade deadline this year (as if) with no term left on his contract and no indications of where he actually wants to play, if anywhere other than best fit or contract. So that's apparently the market for a first-line winger, according to some here.
If that's the case, Ristolainen is useless in every conceivable way and he sucks and stinks worse than Reinhart who also sucks and will want a matching contract to Eichel because "market value bro" and they hang out together and do sexual three-somes with ladies.

Does being the only D man on a Power Play/The guy who is on the top of the umbrella automatically mean you are an offensive defenseman? I keep seeing here constantly that Risto is being considered an offensive defenseman. I beg to differ. Being the only D on a PP/the guy on top does not automatically make you an offensive D man. It just means you are good with the man advantage. I think there is a HUGE difference. D men that can drive offense 5 v 5, zone exists, zone entrees, moving the puck up the ice with their legs, shots on goal etc. Those are OFFENSIVE defensemen. Also, that doesn't mean that those D men are good on the PP either.
Risto is a PP specialist who is SUPPOSED to be a big, strong, good skating, hard to play against, shut down defender with some offensive upside (maybe because he is a PP specialist). |

I love those that use stats to support their position that proclaims stats are useless in developing a better understanding of teams, players etc. - IonSabres
Remember American Gladiators? And those were fit guys in their 20's and 30's and they got their asses kicked 95% of the time.
How do you think an infirm old (frank) would do against a 24 year old all-world athlete(I'm including every NHL player in "all-world athlete" BTW) in peak physical condition in any sort of physical challenge.
It's honestly the most stupendously moronical thing I've read on these boards ever.
The only stat I used was how much luck plays into the outcomes. And that conventional stats don't/are unable to factor luck into them, so yes, they're fundamentally flawed and mostly useless without a poopload of context. And I was illustrating how rating scoring chances based on zones is asinine. |

Which was the confusing part, because you criticized me for saying Kucherov was unlucky, and said regardless of luck the “results are the only thing that matters”
So which lane are you picking? |
