6.9 cap hit and never scored less than 61 points in afull seaon.
- RogerRoeper

Good for him
Still doesnt change the fact that he scored 27 points and earned $12 million last season.

Keller put up 47 points, and he was the leading the scorer on his team

Let that sink in. HE WAS THE LEADING SCORER ON HIS TEAM WITH 47 POINTS.

Scored 60+ points (65) as a rookie and then just under 50 (47) his second year on a bad team. So, basically, the same career trajectory as Alexei Yashin (79, 44). Not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing.

However, there are levels of "bad" teams: over Yashin's first 2 seasons, the Senators won a total of 21 games to Kellers' 68.

I didn't check but isn't Yahin's career high like 90 or 100 points with a 40 goal season?

Of course the immediate knee-jerk reaction is to compare the contract to UFA Kevin Hayes. Totally predictable. And totally irrelevant.

Why not compare this approach with others coming off an ELC? And then contrast the approach of a 7-year deal leading to UFA status versus a 2-3 year bridge to RFA status leaving the team with the leverage to then offer a 7-8 year extension. Sometimes that backfires (Subban). Sometimes it helps.

But out comes Kevin Hayes and Brock Nelson. Haha. Why not MacKinnon or Barkov or Couterier?

- uofcguy

Keller comes in at a higher % of the cap than any of those 3 oddly enough, unless he has a year left on his ELC, in which case we will have to wait until the cap is released next year to make and accurate judgement relative to the other three players. (If my math was correct).

You expect that to ever happen again? And his cap hit was not close to 12 million.

He shot 5 %. last season. Put him in your hockey pools.

Ridiculous. Playing so much less than than peers across the NHL is not setting them up to earn big paydays.

Matthews is the bet 5 on 5 goal scorer and 3rd in per 60 points in the NHL and plays 18 minutes, even in the playoffs.

- RogerRoeper

Ovechkin 15:10/gm

Matthews 15:00/gm

You’re way off, most top players play without a shift or 2 of each other.

According to Steve Simmons. Pierre Lebrun disputed that and said the opposite on TSN yesterday.

All we know for sure is that it was pushed off to get other guys signed. At the very least AZ avoided a mess next summer

Playing with Stepan and Panik

Of course he’s going to play more, he’s their best player, the leafs have lots of guys to go to. This seems to be tough for you to figure out?

So you're going to play the game that Nylander had better linemates all the while ignoring the big difference in overall TOI and PP time ?

Nylander is one of only 4 NHL player the past 4 years to post 150+ points with les than 4000 minutes on the ice.

- RogerRoeper

Yes, I am. I'm not sure who Nylander's most common linemates were, but Keller is playing with the popcorn vendor and the dude from Section 210, Row 3.

That why you use P/60 in stead of using ice time so it evens out the ice time.

And if you take last season
Keller had a better Goals per 60 in all situation
he had a better goals per 60 the year before as well in all situations

The last two seasons they have the exact same Points per 60 in all situations.

Was it Keller that had the best answer from his pre draft interview?

I cant remember the team but it was something along the line of

GM: Why should we draft you this early?
Keller: Would you pass on Patrick Kane this early?

Yep, he had 4 really good seasons and then a decline. He was still "good" but not a superstar. That's why I said I don't know if it was a good thing or a bad thing.

I don't really give a rat's ass about my credibility, but what you're doing is making a very bad mistake that several people make.

When you look at wins or goals at the end of the year, does it matter if they were scored by rookies, Free agents or RFAs?

No it does not.

You can think of the NHL as a game of salary cap moves where hockey is then played to determine if those moves are right.

Getting value on players is the #1 priority of any GM, and whether you get that value from a restricted free agent or an unrestricted one, it doesn't matter.

If the Coyotes and Flyers each pay the same price for a player, how those players came to that price is irrelevant. The Coyotes are going now have an advantage over the Flyers as each team fills out the rest of it's roster.

Who wants to take on the task of explaining to Tanner the difference between the RFA and UFA player market as well as availability of such players to various teams? Anyone?
