When he's on the radio I'm surprised about how much knowledge he has about sport's history, but yeah he's not up to date.

i know my language is most peoples' second language in here so i wouldn't be a jerk about it. i just wonder what everyone is saying sometimes and translating the page is always so iffy.

Yeah that's surely because we're far from using "proper French", so most colloquial expressions get lost in translation lol

yeah it definitely doesn't translate any kind of slang or anything like that at all. it doesn't even try. it just leaves the word the way it was written so i know i'm missing some of the jokes sometimes.

It would be nice to have a powerful translating tool that could do that, but I don't even know if such a thing exists.

maybe so but i know there are nuggets of goodness that i miss out on.

they teach more languages here now than they did when i was in school but they still don't do french unless you ask for it. i have little twin cousins that are in preschool and they make them count to 50 every day and then do it in spanish. that blew me away because i got all the way through school without having to take any foreign language at all. but it's definitely better that they teach more languages than just english here.

If you teach your kid a second language at a young age, chances are it'll be easier for him/her to learn other languages later on.

america spent our first 175 years trying to ignore other people and their languages and everything else about them. then we spent about 65 years welcoming people of all kinds and exchanging ideas and languages and all kinds of stuff. but now we're back to the trying to ignore other people part again.

soon they'll probably pull back on the counting to 50 in spanish and ask the teacher to use that time more appropriately. like for prayer and reciting the pledge of allegiance repeatedly.

not knowing a second language by itself, but switching from a one language to the other in the same sentence. you know, like Justin does
a world recognized research scientist told me that. we had a long conversation on the subject while waiting at the airport.
