Well one good thing from last night’s Bears game. Blackhawks Jonathan Toews, Patrick Kane and Alex DeBrincat at the game learning what it feels like as a fan when your team sucks! They’re like we gotta be better than this, this season boys!

Franking embarrassment on the lakefront last night...Mitch looked more and more like a bust last night than the guy that will lead the Bears to the big dance. Bears offense has done very little going back to the end of last season. Offensive game plan was a joke last night. And a head coach that asks his special teams coach whether to kick a field goal or not...yikes.

Hope the Hawks get out of the gate quick - because the way this looks fans maybe looking elsewhere by October...

Hello....Bingo.....where are you????? Weigh in ....cmon.

With the good D-men Canes have, why the heck they want that turn-over machine. Heck, he makes Gus look like Rod Langway. .....well, not exactly....but, he is every bit as bad as Gus.....

Interesting since they traded DaHaan at $4.5 with 3 years left. Gardiner has injury history also.

(frank)ing Bears! At least they've only soured my mood at the end of the week vs starting the whole week off with a loss.

Thanks for the early morning blog to get things going in a different direction TC!

Along with the three you mentioned (Dach, Boqvist and Hagel), I'd like to see what Kurashev and some of the other dmen do.

- HawkintheD

that really was a stinker of an offense from the players to the coaches. Rogers did not beat them...they beat themselves and pssed away a great defensive effort and division game they should have won...

A guy I'm going to be watching is Dennis Gilbert. I had high hopes for him when he was at Notre Dame, especially after his sophomore year when he showed both good offense and a solid physical game on defense. His junior year wasn't as good offensively and then last year at Rockford he seemed a little slow footed so I question whether or not he is NHL material. Hopefully he has worked on his skating and quickness because it would be nice to have his size and physical game on the Hawks at some point.
- EbonyRaptor

Agree, Gilbert is a much desired asset on the blueline as a defensive defensemen who plays the body, skates decently, and shows a mean streak. He may be a suitable replacement for what many were expecting of Stephen Johns who has a derailed career due to head injuries.

IIRC, early in his tenure at Notre Dame, the Fighting Irish coaches wanted him to stop being a puck rusher and more of a stay-at-home defender. Not sure if that change in style was a directive of the Blackhawks. Either way, Gilbert did evolve his game as such while still retaining an average capacity to move the puck.

In his rookie season last year at Rockford, Gilbert was the most improved blueliner over the course of the season going from 6th/7th man to playing top pair with Carlsson by the latter part of the year.

Thanks hawk35!

Entwistle might even wear an A on his sweater as well. The kid knows his role and is a leader!

- Tyler Cameron

Yes, I can see Entwistle being considered for an A for the tourney. Same with Krys, Dach, Hagel, and Johnson. If I had to select a captain, it would be Krys.

Sounds like Dennis Gilbert will be captain at Traverse City.

Much in the same way the Hawks couldn’t win while Dollar Bill owned the team, the Bears will not win as long as that senile old woman and her bean counter kid run the team. Plus, she axed the Honey Bears, who were the only reason to watch football.

Just heard it's Gilbert.

He's technically the only "pro" the Hawks are bringing. You're allowed to bring 4 to the tournament.

The consider a "pro" as 1 full year in the AHL.

You bet. Excited for this tournament to get going!

I like Kurashev a lot... looking forward to see what he can do!

- Tyler Cameron

Soderlund is another prospect who has the potential to bust out during this tournament. His game of speed, relentless forechecking, and nose for the tough, dirty areas is tailor made for the smaller North American ice. Glad he's finally crossed over from Sweden.

That makes sense it's Gilbert given his seniority. Thanks for the update, Tyler!

Good to hear. Just like you "can't teach speed" - you also "can't teach size" and Gilbert has that.

Not sure why anyone would cry about that. At that number, he's just an extra body. I don't see the downside. Has shown "some" potential to be a decent NHL player. If he puts it all together, it will be a steal for this year. If not, virtually no issue getting rid of the guy.

Great signing for the Hawks. Really thought Bowman was gonna overpay here. I am happy Perlini is back. I would like to see what he can do over a full year.

McMeddler told me it was good for the brand and that if I wasn't nice he's tell Scotty's son to banish me.

Surprising.

I have a couple comments that I have been posting on the Twittersephere:

@TylerTyping

With so many fwds signed/in pipeline for CHI, don't see this is a handshake deal w/ promise of a future, bigger contract.

Perlini will be fighting for a spot in lineup... & now his next contract every game this season.

If this doesn't light a fire in his belly, nothing will.

Hey Bogie, it wasn't just the fact that the offensive game plan was brutal(where's the frickin' running game) it was that Trubisky looked lost and his passes were off. 2 delay of game penalties. etc...how bout allen robinson standing there waving he was so open. Pace has done a lot of good, but cutting Robbie and his franchise QB pick leave a lot to be desired. And now they face Fangio in week 2...gulp.
