Opening D lineup last year

Rielly-Hainsey
Gardiner-Zaitsev
Dermott-Ozhiganov

If someone doesn’t see improvement in the Leafs d this season you they are just simple minded and playing the devils advocate.

Kappy and Johnnson. Are they just going to plateau at 23 and 24? Is Johnnson just going to plateau at his rookie season? Hell no.

A struggling PP now has two dynamic PP QBs.

We are hoping Neuvirth or Hutch can be better tha Sparks. That shouldn’t be too difficult.

Is Kadri better than Kerfoot? Yes. But Kadri did not produce well in a 3rd line role. I don’t see why Kerfoot can’t settle into a 3rd line role nicely.

And oh. Are Marner, Matthews, Nylander, Dermott, Johnnson, Kapanen, Moore all supposed to plateau at 21-24 years old? Ffs people. This is a good team and Dubas has done a great job putting it together this offseason.

Having this roster on opening night is a (frank) ton better than last opening night and we still have a TDL to make improvements.

Stop hating on a team that had one of the better off seasons in the league given the circumstances.

il be here - but will you?

you seriously think Connor Brown is better than kerfoot? cmon

- Lucas.Neilson

I personally think Kerfoot is much more talented.... guess you can make a case that Brown could bring a more energetic style to the bottom 6..... maybe....

hindsight says nobody has interest in marleau.

canes needed to do the deal in june in order to buy him out. that deal would not be avaible after june 30.

with ~$10M of cap space, we can sign marner. if we had $4M right now, the threat of an offer sheet would actually be real.

some team would be getting more than a 1st now if we still needed to clear out $6M of dead weight to get marner signed.

- Tumbleweed

I agree he needed to be moved. Would have rather seen a package of players and a pick than the 1st is all.

I wonder if gardiner has any inside info with marner. Maybe Dubas told him it looks like we’ll be getting a long term deal with Marner done so we’re not going to be able to sign you.

barrie is better than gardiner by how much in your estimation? please go ahead and quantify it.
- BluesFan44isa_JOKE

Well for starters

Barrie is 6th in D scoring the past 3 years.

Gardiner is 20th.

He’s 10x better on the PP.

Both are D who want to possess the puck to cover their average defensive abilities. And Barrie takes that over Gardiner easily. Barrie is 2nd in the league for OZ possession percentage.

If you don’t believe me let’s get back to this when the season is over and see who had the better season. Barrie or Gardiner.

They are worse in their own end defensively, which was quite hard to imagine could be possible. I like how you used the opening day lineup rather than the closing d roster, and in comparison to that, it's worse in their own end.

try me

connor brown is a 2nd line player that was buried on the 4th line of toronto's somewhat stacked lineup the last 2 seasons. kerfoot is a 15-20 goal scoring 3rd line centre, who will not see top line or 2nd line minutes behind matthews, tavares and nylander if the leafs keep to their word and eventually move nylander to centre. the only way kerfoot sees any time on the top 2 lines is if he plays left wing but he's probably still going to be behind hyman and johnsson.

Brown has played on the 1st line with Matthews quite a few times the past 2 seasons. He did not fair well.

You would not be calling Brown a 2nd line player if he was on the Leafs.

that was before the 'NEW NHL' spezza is now an old man here to play either 3rd or 4th line centre, not win a cup then at season's end either find a new team or retire just like marleau.

The dude has a hate on for the Leafs.

Brown is now a 2nd line player somehow.

So is Zaitsev.

Hainsey is the best leader in the league.

I think what he is saying is Kerfoot in Kadri’s mins won’t be too hard to be close to.

He was in a limited role.
