Or gardiner wasnt waiting in marner at all.
Maybe the leafs only offered one year

- Fakepartofme

True

Maybe Dubas told him this will drag on for awhile, don’t wait on us..

I’m just looking for anything that might spark a marner signing so we can stop talking about this damn thing.

That doesn't help Carolina with the cap while making their team weaker.

I like it.

So Codi Ceci makes more money this year than Jake Gardner?
- aminnes

Yes. But not in any year after that.

- aminnes

That i dont know...yet. will need to watch him.
I believe most on here wont know either, cause i doubt they watched alot of avs games last year and paid real attention to kerfoot.

Well for starters

Barrie is 6th in D scoring the past 3 years.

Gardiner is 20th.

He’s 10x better on the PP.

Both are D who want to possess the puck to cover their average defensive abilities. And Barrie takes that over Gardiner easily. Barrie is 2nd in the league for OZ possession percentage.

If you don’t believe me let’s get back to this when the season is over and see who had the better season. Barrie or Gardiner.

- Santo_44

gardiner missed 20 games last season, scored 30 points. the 2 previous seasons he played all 82 games each and scored a combined 95 points, total 125 points over 3 seasons. gardiner's offensive role on the team diminished with the emergence of rielly's elite offensive game last season.

barrie missed games during the past 3 seasons a total of 26, the same 2 seasons gardiner scored 95 points combined barrie also had 95 points combined in 22 less games played, barrie played 78 games last season and scored 59 points for a 3 year total of 154 points over 3 seasons. colorado finally emerged as a playoff contender after having made the playoffs only once from 2010 to 2017.

gardiner and barrie are roughly the same age and almost equally suck defensively, barrie is a career -59 and jake gardiner is actually surprisingly a career +9.

all the leafs did is slightly upgrade their offense from the defense by what? 10-15% if barrie maintains his production? that won't stop pucks from going in the leafs own net. the basically added 10-15 points a season from their defense for 1 season and maintained if not worsened a defensive liability.

i'm personally glad gardiner is gone because his playoff botches became way too common place and costly. but make no mistake about it, replacing him with barrie is like replacing him with a right handed shooting slightly better producing gardiner and that is it.

Marner will sign just in time for the Dermott offersheet rumours and subsequent hold out. Should be fun.

marner, nylander, kapanen, brown

do you see the 3 guys that were ahead of him on right wing? he was a 20 goal scorer in his first full season with the leafs, then came kapanen to start eating brown's 3rd line minutes away and the leafs were left with using him in 4th line minutes, pk and utility role moving him up and down the lineup only when they needed a change.

Thank god. Now can put an end to that whole idiotic talk of Gards being brought back. Now just finish the Marner saga so can focus on camp and who makes the roster etc.

Brown has played on the 1st line with Matthews quite a few times the past 2 seasons. He did not fair well.

You would not be calling Brown a 2nd line player if he was on the Leafs.

- Santo_44

he did not play with matthews all that often. brown and matthews are both goal scorers and are better suited playing with playmakers.

I think it makes sense for the Canes.

Too much D, too little O, plus they have cap space to send Ceci down
