I think he wanted to create internal competition which he has. Brings the best out of everyone. I’m sure some organization would take Girgensons or Larsson if one of the youngsters beats them out for a spot. - Swedish_Jesus
Competition is great, and needed.
I fully support that, and who wouldn't?
However, if competition at 15 positions results only in 1 or 2 changes...well, it is way overstated, and can be somewhat demoralizing to the competitors who earned the opportunity but were "sent down/back" due to contract obligations.
Botts needed to unload several vets who are replacement level, as we see with way too many of the vets on this team including the Lockport Twins. Maybe he still can and will do so based on the results of the competition, but it looks like from this vantage point that he'll retain many of them and transition next season versus now.
We shall see though. |

Agreed my friend.
Arttu Ruotsalainen looks like he may be staying if keeps up his fine play. - Over50
You know I came to that thought as well this morning.
I had him in my mind as a C only, but if he can play RW, he may find a home there on one of Lines 1 to 3...maybe with Jack on the 1st or on the 3rd with ERod... assuming Rhino is with Mitts on L2.
I'm pulling for him to nail down one of those spots and be productive...that would be a terrific add. |

If it was preplanned, he should be suspended by the Commish for conduct detrimental to the league |

Puck doesn’t drop till October 4th. Training camp hasn’t started yet. Half of the RFA’s haven’t even signed yet. There is still time. |

Yup. Still time, no doubt.
But at this point, I'm expecting minor tweeks, not roster surgery.
Most teams have set their roster already, including those with RFA's as they have parked Cap to address those new contracts...so not alot of extra space to take on a contract like Sheary, Scandella, Larry, Gus, etc to open meaningful roster spots.
It would have to be money in/money out...or we hold $'s.

Now let’s get back to our prospects.... I’m cautiously excited for Ola, Olo? Has Hommie given him a name yet?
where’s 89 been? Haven’t seen him in forever!
Hommie! How are the fish? What’s in the fridge for the weekend? And you hearing anything?
I see Gardiner signed, I didn’t see the terms though....
And I still think botts has a move or two in him before the season.... |

Montour, Johansson, Vesey, Miller, Jokiharju, Cozens, Ruotsalainen have been added since the deadline. Skinner extended long term. Olofsson should be a full time NHL player. Full scale coaching overhaul. Improvement from Mitts and Dahlin. This is a much different team from opening night last year.
Thompson, CJ Smith, Asplund, Oglevie, Lazar, Dea, Gilmour fighting for spots. Risto may still be traded. It’s not like we haven’t done anything.

Goalofsson
where’s 89 been? Haven’t seen him in forever!
He gets pissed at the BS games when bringing forth what he hears inside, not unlike several others who have shared Info...can't blame him really.
Hommie! How are the fish? What’s in the fridge for the weekend? And you hearing anything?
[b]Hearing from fish?...ya. sure...like Please, no mas..take her instead
I see Gardiner signed, I didn’t see the terms though....
4 x $4.05m. Apparently, one of few teams willing to go longer that 1 or 2 years.
And I still think botts has a move or two in him before the season....
I hope so |

You don't have to recount for me what Botts has done this offseason.
It IS impressive what he has accomp, ushed no doubt...I have posted that many, many times.
Yet, he needed to unload a poop-ton of old useless Vet...and he hasn't...that jeopardizes much ou f his accomplishments. So all these "adds" you listed...it doesn't mean Richard for this season if they won't play because, well, he didn't unload the deadwood players being paid a poop-ton of money. You know that, as we all do.
That is my beef...he did alot in bringing in new guys (who I really like alot)...but, whom most likely won't get a shot cause of the old useless vets:
-Okposo (pass given due to untradeable contract given by predecessor
-Gigensons, why bring him back, really!
-Lockport Larry, why bring him back really!
-Sheary, guy needs Training wheels to stay upright
-Scandella, 'nuff said
-Wilson, it ain't 2017 anymore
-Nelson, get something, anything for a RhD who is soon to be #9 or10
That is fully 7 of 21 game day players...fully 1/3 of the playable roster...he should have moved 4 somehow to free-up roster space for the real competition that matters.
His job, as much as he has completed this offseason is really only half done. |
