Possibly because Connor gets the minutes with 56 and 29 ?
- bennythehat

If the talent on the Jets is as good as posters on this site seem to think, they should be running out Scoring line 1 18-20 minutes a game and Scoring line 2 18-20 mins a game.

The Jets have more firepower than any team not located near a bay or a Great Lake of some variety. We should be rolling 4 lines, and going shot for shot with everyone. Not randomly sticking all our skill guys together in the top 6 so you can cut minutes from the 4th line, gurgling at every opportunity, and getting massacred any time Scheifele has an off night

My only issue with ice time is the disgusting long shifts that the #1 unit takes, especially Sheifele and wheeler. Temper that a little and the balance will be about right

Except, uh, no. Last season was a very obvious aberration. He’s literally always been a dominant shooter.
Having his shot percentage go up in his first two years as the most dangerous sniper in the world makes sense. His regression next year will be terrifying for the NHL if he can get the shot volume up.

Additionally, I’m now remembering how I spent the entire first half talking about how the Jets were running hot (AKA getting lucky) on powerplay scoring and unreal goaltending, and that the wheels were going to fall off unless they made changes. Guess what...

- Rexypoo

He has not always been a dominant shooter as his shooting percentage went down last year. There is nothing to suggest that his shot volume will increase when it's been the same for the first three years. His third year could be what is the normal and his second year could be the one that is considered an aberration.

Furthermore your assessment of players: Petan, Dano, Postma, Enstrom has for the most part been inaccurate as it is now with Laine.

I think they are staying on longer as they have been unlucky in how they have been deployed.

Two years of top level play, the second of which showed marked improvement, followed by a down year with an unusually low shooting percentage, notably worse linemates, and the entire Jets roster seeing a drop in performance across the board does not indicate that last season is the actual Laine.

Furthermore: uh, again, no. The first two are actively signed to NHL deals, one is playing top minutes in the KHL and making more doing it than he would here, and one chose to leave after our coach did something stupid and offensive.

High end talent should be able to play 18-20 minutes a game and not get worn out. Throw out Lowry line for 15 minutes, or turn it into Scoring line 3 and who cares about the 4th line, go sign cheap vets like Maroon, and Brassard to play 5 minutes a game, and keep your prospects on the Moose until an injury.

Dano is on a 2way contract. Petan is likely the 13th forward on Leafs, if lucky. Postma plays in a minor league and Enstrom plays even lower that that.

So the Comrie signing likely had more to do with having a goalie available for the Seattle entry draft although he still is needed on the Moose.

I'm betting you'll see Kyle Connor this year start with Little and Laine but you also might see Lowry get a little ice time in the middle there early in the season and see where it goes. Ehlers will likely start on the first line. Mark my words that Kyle Connor will be the future superstar of this team. Everyone wants to have him on their line and Maurice is very high on him both offensively and defensively.

Rexy, be a man for a change on just admit you were dead wrong on Petan, Postma, Dano, Enstrom , and even Laine's performance ( last year) and then I'm sure the board will move on. Lame excuses just don't cut it. Every NHL coach and GM can't be wrong. None of them got any decent offers or ice time after the Jets.

-All of Dano, Petan, and Postma have singed NHL contracts after the Jets.
-Laine’s performance was roughly 80% due to Maurice’s decision making.
-Enstrom was offered contracts with multiple NHL teams, and chose to leave. This is widely reported, and not up for debate or dispute.

Nice to have you back with the personal insults.

P.S. I sure hope Connor-Little-Laine isn’t a thing. At all. Nobody there drives play, all 3 are shoot-first, and all 3 play different styles. If Maurice puts Little and Laine together for a single shift next season, I’d fire him immediately on principle alone

Dano is still likely to make the Jackets, Petan was traded into a log jam of talent where he was still better than some regulars when he got in, Postma plays big minutes at the 2nd highest level in the world, and Enstrom was the best shutdown dman in the NHL at the time he walked away.

Rexy loving his players is as bad as those in here loving Myers, Chairot and Tanev just because Maurice did to.
Guess what, they all suck

I like reading trade rumours so have no problem
With all the Laine ones but man do I loathe reading all the horrendously crap offers fans of other teams are throwing out there.

Like of course we will take your older, soon to be UFA or massively under performing younger guys with a couple mid round picks thrown in for Laine. Why not? He’s not 21 and projected to be the best goal scorer since Ovie or anything.

Maurice didn't last this long in the league because he misjudged a lot of talent.

The Jets are going to miss Myers, Trouba, Chairot and Tanev far more than people think. Myers will look like (barring injury) an all-star when judged against the current replacements.

All of Myers, Chiariot and Tanev would be back if the Jets could fit them under the salary cap. Other teams who picked these guys up didn't pick them up because they suck. No, they valued them (maybe overvalued $$$ wise?). Do you think all the other teams' pro scouts are dumb/blind?

The season is near ... this is good

Ok - gonna lay some predictions ... "guesses", perhaps, more appropriately and this is always dangerous:

- Connor gets signed long(er) term sometime between puck drop at camp to puck drop at season opener
- Laine holds out/no contract into the start of season and gets signed to a bridge deal causing further doubt around his headspace/desire to stay in the 'peg ... his skating improves marginally and his shot still leaves us in awe
- Vesalainen plays but doesn't impress
- Roslo's & Appleton's play continue to improve & impress
- fans are left in bewilderment as names like "Luoto" and "Chibisov" adorn the bleu et bleu and have spot/clean up duty on the bottom 6
- sphincters remain in tightened modes as we watch our D try to defend our zone and move the puck up ice
- Jets remain the hottest ticket in town as their play is hit & miss, night to night

Postma has found his niche in a league which suits his level of talent. He was born to play defence against the likes of O'Dell, Cormier, Sexton, Shirikov, and the rest of the 30 and over boys.

Where do old Moose go to pasture ? The KHL !

This team will continue to flounder as long as Maurice continues to coach as he did last season. His lack of a defensive system and predictable zone breakout causes the team to spend way too much time in their own end which leads to giving up to many shots. Poor line combinations, favoritism of older less talented players and questionable use of his young players contributes to problems in the room. Unless he addresses these concerns the Jets will be hard pressed to make the playoffs let alone win the cup.

I love Myers and I am glad the Jets did not re-sign him, Tanev, or Chiarot. Reason being that if the Jets are truly a draft and develop team they should not be signing guys getting close to 30 years old to long term deals. They should theoretically have players in the system that are ready to take spots vacated by those guys.

That's why I found it confusing that they signed Wheeler, Little and Byfuglien to long term deals.

Look I like Maurice but he is the record holder for all time losses and losing %. I wouldn’t use longevity as a favourable argument. Maybe all this time he should have an assistant coach??? Ever consider he has been Mis cast for the past 25 years?

UJ, you've got to have that veteran presence, you cannot dress all kids. You need someone who has been there, done that to lead.
Youthful exuberance is great, but you can't have all youths. Stability!

You play longer at any sport, you're going to have some negative stats. EG - a baseball player who plays 25 years is going to lead, or be near the lead, in strikeouts. It doesn't make him a bad player or he wouldn't last that long.

Similarly to an NHL coach.
Oh gawd, Maurice makes me mad at times, no doubt about it. My main problem is having the third line, or fourth, out on the ice with a minute to go or so, and one goal down. I don't get it. Or having, say Patrik out there, trying to protect a one-goal lead with a minute to go. Drives me nuts!

But still I think Maurice must know what he is doing, maybe gathering info or whatever for future games. I think he has enough respect by "those in the know" in the NHL, that if he were ever fired by the Jets, he would be gobbled up another team fairly soon.

It's the defensive system that I hope is changed this season. Both forwards and defense. Away too many quality shots on Helle last season. Hopefully Paul can correct this.

I think there is a difference between being a leader and a veteran. I look at players like Scheifele and Morrissey as being leaders and I think that just because a player has played in the league a long time does not guarantee he is a leader. A major part of drafting and developing is instilling core leadership values in players. These are just my thoughts.....

Your first paragraph is not true, sure it applies to some but other ms excel in sports for very long time and have very few negative results where Maurice has many.

Maurice being around as long as he has also has a lot to do with Rutherford loving him so much and being responsible for hiring him so many times and also giving him a chance before he was ready.

I’ll say it again. I like Maurice but honestly think he was and is better suited as a career assistant coach not head man.

Grahamsky. You've been bang on with this comment and a lot of other comments I read today from you. Big difference between these guys who all got superior contracts on other teams vs the cannon fodder that Postma, Petan, Dano, and Enstrom got. It truly tells the tale of who is properly judged as talented and who is not. Jets could no longer afford Myers, Tanev, and Chariot after a bidding war for their talents.
