You know something funny? I've been a long-time nerd. So much so, that in 1988 I used to call into multi-line BBS boards, which were largely the precursor to online chat boards on the internet.

One of the accounts we made, for poops & giggles as a user named 'Arrogant', and the user was a very crude base program that recognized tense, and some key words to come up with one of 8 directed macro responses. The account would log in, say 1 or 2 baiting comments, and then nothing more, except responses based on content directed towards it.

It was permabanned after 1 day. People still talked about how annoying "that guy" was six months later. But it would never have said a word if people didn't engage it.

The moral of that story: Don't feed the trolls.
