What's our secondary, our D? It will be fine once Provorov signs.
- jmatchett383

our real defense is carson wentz and his possession time

Looking forward to camp reports on Serdyuk -- has the potential to be a real sleeper pick.

Hasn't stood out but it's his first ever pro camp (wasn't in Dev Camp this July).

Carson Wentz isn't a Flyer, nor is he even a hockey player.

Is that the player who led all QMJHL rookies in scoring?

Yes. Wasn't able to be in Development Camp this summer due to visa issue, so Rookie Camp is his first NHL camp of any kind. Hasn't stood out through the first two days. Needs to get a lot stronger and quicker. Was getting pushed around a bit in the scrimmage yesterday. Clearly has good hands and a very nice passing touch but a long way to go in his all-around development. Keep in mind that he's 18 and barely 165 pounds.

From what I’m told, @BlueJacketsNHL
are close to signing Defenseman @ZachWerenski

to a 15M Deal over 3Years. This would be huge for CBJ securing of the Top young D in the game.

There it is. Provorov very comparable to Werenski, so they are going to sign him for a fair number.

Dumb deal for Columbus if true. Takes him 1 year away from UFA status.

Not really, they could basically control him for the next 11 years (the new CBA might have something to say about that) and are getting a pretty hefty bargain up front. That's basically his whole effective career.

This is an awesome deal by Columbus.

This is a great sign for us, bad for CBJ, Werenski with PP time will drive his next contract up a considerable amount and I don't think the same will happen for Provy. Provy is more Marc Eduaord Vlasic esque - hopefully better.
* maybe not bad for CBJ, cant complain getting a young Dman signed for 3 years. Just next deal will be big for the kid.

Yeah...or he pulls a Shea Weber and refuses to sign anything other than a 1-year deal

Nah. Paying Amac 5 million per year is better business.

It's a great sign for you guys for sure.

I still don't see how this is bad. Let's just pretend that Columbus signed him for 8/56 right now. Yes you are getting a deal for longer and it insures against his really blowing up. However at the end, you have a pretty big decision to make and he has the UFA leverage to go along with it. Whatever it would cost in 3 years, it will cost way more.

With this contract, maybe in 3 years you have to pay him 8/72 or more. However, at that time the cap has gone up probably a bit and at the end you are probably are close to the point where you'd think about cutting bait anyway.

I realize a decade is an eternity out on the hockey world, but this is their franchise cornerstone. They are playing it right by trying to maximize the number of controllable years they could have. If he demands a trade or will only sign 1 year (and you trade him) you could still get a king's ransom for him if you go that route

Done deal.

Aaron Portzline
@Aportzline
#CBJ have agreed to terms with RFA D Zach Werenski on a three-year, $15 million contract, as first reported by @KevinWeekes
.

Deal should be official later today.

Offer Provorov same deal at 4.5 million per year.

Bad was the wrong term to use, my point was if Provy were to sign the same I feel Werenskis next deal will cost more due to the PP time.

And if the Flyers go any value over 4.5 million I am sure you will be here to tell us all how they suck and you + JoeGrief would have done a better job.

I would 100% hope Provy signs for the same, even though I believe Werenski is a smidge better. Still, with all the rumors out there of asking for 8/9 even 10 a year, signing for 5 a year for 3 years would be a coup. And if for the next 3 years he can prove he is an elite defender, then we give him the big bucks.
