He played lower in the lineup last year for the most part as well. Classic example of a cap casualty. He's a good 3rd liner in most teams,just not a team that has Marner, Melander, and Kappy in front of him. Watch for Ottawa to flip him for a player with a lower dollar than cap hit salary and a pick by the deadline.

Yup. The Leafs have lost the ability to pay a guy that much for such a mall role. He'll do much better statitically and play more on the Sen.

One thing to keep us all in check here is that while I like the addition of Spezza because it adds to the PP2 unit, his 5v5 play is not appreciably better than Gauthier's.

I agree that Gauthier is slower than molasses on a cold slope, but Gauthier led more rush attempts. Gauthier had 10 times as many hits, more blocked shots, and fewer giveaways.

Spezza is significantly better on the faceoff and should have wingers with more offensive upside than he did in Dallas. Last year the guys he had for nearly 300 minutes - one had a 4% shooting percentage, and the other a 0%. That's rough when you're a passer!

That's how I see it going, too.

The 4th line was atrocious last season every game La Chèvre was healthy scratched and there's no way Babcock would forget that.

Probably not faster then Gauthier, but I was only fooling around. Don't care if he's on the team or not....I don't think he's a big steal or anything.
