I'll disagree heavily on that point, but the Sabres will 100% go with the devil they know over the devil they dont, so he's on the team no matter what his preseason looks like. Botts' comment is GM speak - jcragcrumple
Why is Okposo the Sabres' #1 enemy? I promise you, he isn't. |

The Canadiens waited until November to waive Alzner.
I expect similar for Scandella or Bogo if they can’t work out a trade.

He had 7 goals and 11 assists at even strength last year. If Mojo, Vesey and a new dman kick him off the power play, we're going to watch him do pirouettes in the corner and fling the puck back to the point to the tune of 15 points this year. Doesn't play the PK. He's here because of his contract. There's no meritocracy as it pertains to him |

Okposo absolutely isn’t “good” anymore, but he’s a competent 4th liner defensively and good on PP2.
You’re right he’s here because of his contract. But if he also was a 900k PTO and went head to head with Ruostolainen in camp, my money would be on Okposo.
That’s the problem, we have no idea if these guys are competent NHL’ers.
But he’s supposed to take that chance and then hit your arbitrary barometer of 90 points? |

I know you’re being facetious but I hate that narrative
We had no one waiting to replace these guys last year besides Smith and Olofsson.
The young depth is slowly taking over.
It’s a shame Murray couldn’t hit on a pick with all those second rounders
Could have a lot more bottom 6 depth right now - OneKaneOneCup
Not necessarily trying to be facetious with my comment, it was more so to alleviate fear that the Sabres are truly that stubborn that regardless of any veterans skill level and contributions, that they won't be moved for talented minor leaguers.
I agree with the rest of the post. What did we honestly have last year that surely could have knocked out a guy from our roster at the start of the season?
Botts wasn't afraid to send Moulson into orbit, and he wasn't afraid of keeping Scott Wilson down as long as possible. Same with Hunwick.
The guys we're looking at this year. Pilut, Joker, Thompson, Asplund, Olofsson, Rusto, Borgen, maybe even Smith.. we either didn't have those guys or they weren't ready. The ones we had were duly promoted, and now these guys will be much more ready to fight for a spot.
It's about time we see some actual prospects graduating. Not the sure fire 1st rounders like Jack Casey Rhino and Risto, but actual depth picks. |

If Asplund, Ruotsalainen, Smith, Malone, whoever is better in the preseason, they should absolutely start the season over Okposo. God knows no one is claiming him off waivers. They could put him back in at any time

I'm not sure the moon is far enough. Outside of earth's gravitational range would be preferable |

my guess is no
unless we eat some cap
all quiet on the home front
including lack of calls made to shop risto from botts
it is what it is, unless someone wows botts
cozen will get a real look at camp, probably at wing - homiedclown
Cozens .... 1st line RW. Let Reinhart go to the 2nd line. Doubt it happens but Atleast cozens has some skill / support. Better than dumping him on the 4th line with scrubs |

Besides the patriots and chiefs ...... everyone else in the AFC looked like trash. The ravens game vs the fins doesn’t count. Fins are tanking . |

yeah i dont know that putting cozens on the top line is a good idea.. maybe for a game or two just so he gets a feel. I don't think he can keep up over the course of a season. i also agree putting him on the 4th or even our 3rd (as it sits) may not be best for him in the long run. |

Not sure if kidding or not. It was 1 game that we rarely ran the ball. He is great at catching out of backfield, not something we needed / tried to do much vs Jets. If we need that type of play, he will be a great player to trot out for a handful of plays to help move the chains. I don't mind if he is cut, but I don't like the other RB's enough to do that. |
