Hainsey got the most ice time on the Stanley cup champions two years ago. Stepped up when others got injured. He's a lot better defensively than people give credit. He's losing a step now but still considerably better in his own end than Ceci.

Not only is Aho better defensively (imo), he also produced similar numbers with an inferior supporting cast.

Three years ago. He was 38 last year. And no, he didnt get the most ice time on the pens. He got significant minutes sure....but he was a career minus player leading up to that....im sure having two elite centers and hot goalie might have helped him in Pittsburgh the same way schultz suddenly wasn't a liability. And hainsey had some of his statistically best seasons here, because this leaf team is pretty damn good.

Ah. I actually wouldn't mind if they had brought gardiner back, but I Just have this feeling that paying him for what he did isn't going to match up well with how he will do going forward. As for ceci....hes probably going to suck, but he's what a 25 year old former 1st round pick ? What do we have to lose really for one season.
