It is perfectly ok to ask people in europe about their occupations. In the rare case they don't want to tell you, they'll just give you a vague answer.
Europeans might put less emphasis on work and not bring it up first - but only because they feel there are other things more interesting to discuss.

Spain and Germany found it more acceptable but still the same, it’s considered rude. Like asking how much money is in your bank account here.

The question most Leafs fans can't seem to answer is who is going to kill penalties? And who is going to kill them effectively and consistently, especially when it matters most.

The Leafs absolutely sucked on the PK in the playoffs. And their season PK wasn't that good either.

Rielly, Barrie, Muzzin, Ceci and then two rookies and/or journeyman and/or AHL defense until Dermott gets back.

And it's adorable watching some people trying to defend Ceci. I'd love to see what these same people would have said if somebody had said "the Leafs should acquire Ceci in a trade" before he was traded here.

I would think, along those same lines, that bringing it up slightly to 8/8/8.5/11.5 with an AAV of 9 would probably get it done, because he ends up qualified in Matthews territory, which is where he wants to be. But I think 4 years walks him right to UFA, doesn't it? That would make a larger 4th year irrelevant.

Trying to keep that into the same realm, you end up with something like 7.5/8/11.5 on a 3 year bridge, but that's an AAV of 9 on a 3 year bridge, which is still crazy.

I didn't fully catch why Werenski's contract was allowed to exceed the 35% year-over-year rule, but keeping with it on a 3 year term, the best I could see for Marner is in those types of parameters that keeps the AAV down and still keeps the QO up over 11 is something like: 6.2 / 8.4 / 11 = 8.53AAV.

Not to beat a dead horse, but look at Meier's contract. They have to qualify him and the salary in his last year is 10M so he'll be getting a one year deal that pays him north of that, which also walks him to UFA. It seems to be how teams are keeping these guys' cap hit down for a few years and will pay the piper later.

I have heard the same said a while back, but the idea was supposed to be more of an "agreement" type of thing. The leafs increase the AAV in the 3rd year to a commitment level, with the understanding that this is the baseline for their next contract. It certainly exposes them if Marner decides to not sign, accept a QO and then walk into free agency.
