I think the Leafs will do well this year

He played with Ron freaking hainsey and made out okay, so I'm not willing to go the doom and gloom route on that one prior to the puck even dropping on game 1.

That's right. He went from a below average defensive partner to maybe the worst in the NHL. The d improved somehow.

Rielly-Hainsey
Gardiner-Zaitzev
Dermott-Ozhiganov

You seriously don’t see an improvement?

Stop bringing up the beginning of last years d to justify the non improvement. Compared to what they had at the end of the year it is at best the same, arguably worse defensively.

Lol.

I guess at a certain point one just has to be able to recognize a lost cause and give up.

If you think this year's group isn't improved on that, well, you can lead a horse to water but you can't make him drink.

Okay so a few things.

So you having a better D lineup for an entire year doesn’t help getting higher in the standings and getting a better matchup?

And another thing...you probably think
Muzzin jumping in at the TDL is simple and having a full season to adjust to systems and the team does nothing? Oh and having a baby with his wife when he gets traded and moving them to another country has no effect on him whatsoever right ? The real life doesn’t matter to hockey players.

And one last thing. If you want to get technical with me I will with you.

Gardiner was playing with half a back on the 3rd pairing for 14 mins a night. Yes a healthy Barrie is a major major improvement over that.(I can’t wait until you ignore this part of my post)

Edit:

Oh I’m much more comfortable with Schmaltz, Harpuer, Sandin/Liljegren as depth d over Marincin and Holl.

don't get your hopes up.
Marincin is a better hockey player.

Absolutely agree with everything you've said - except Holl. For some reason known only to Bablord himself.. Holl playedcwhat 5 games. That doesn't really make sense to me... not suggesting he some star in the making.. but maybe with s different d coach will result in some different utilization.. and I'm hoping Marincrap never sees a regular season minute.

Muzzin for the whole year helps, that is true. How did you find out Gardner ws playing with half a back?

Reilly/Ceci - Reilly gets to try and be dynamic while also dealing with content mistakes and goals going in.

Barri/Muzzin - a fairly balanced pair, although teams will just cycle in Barrie's corner so it will be interesting to see.

Dermott/Schmaltz - Not bad for a botom pair.

Who's playing d on the PK? Ceci? Barrie?

It's a best a wash defensively over last year, and the PK raises huge questions. The idea that they will simply play in the other teams end all night is not realistic as this d core is susceptible to the cycle game and opposing teams know it.

So today I decided to have my kindergarten class speak individually about what their parents do for a living, as a way of getting to know each other (seemed like a good idea, given that it is early in the school year and most of these kids are more or less strangers to one another).

Nothing really out of the ordinary -- a couple of kids had parents who were doctors/dentists, a few lawyers, tradespeople, etv
One kid though -- this tiny Asian girl Jessica -- tells the class that her dad is in a mental asylum and paints pictures by smearing his feces on the wall.

I took her aside and asked her: "Jessica, is that really true?"

And she said "no... I was too embarrassed to tell the truth... that my dad is that (frank)ing moron Aminnes on Hockeybuzz".

Not trying to shame you at all for this.

But I was recently in Europe and I learned how rude it is to ask about careers/school to people when meeting people.

Like legit, it’s something you don’t talk about with people unless they are very close to you.

Just wanted to share that lol, I just found it interesting how the US/Canada is one of the few countries where it’s acceptable and encourages to do what you did.

Uhm?? Gardiner himself? Babcock?

So I’m glad you chose to ignore that part. Gardiner was playing sheltered mins with Dermott last year.

So to go with your “you can only compare D corps at the end of the year”

Barrie>>>>>>>>>>>Gardiner
Depth 2019>depth2020
Dermott2019>2018(I mean we are hoping he follows the trend of players getting better at 22......)
Ceci=Z(they both are average 3rd pairing d)

Add in that Lil and Sandin both have shots at being factors by years end

Also add in that there is still a TDL and an entire season to add to the D....back to your “you can only compare D corps at the end of the year”
