I think you people are reading way too much into someone asking what you do for a living.
Its literally a 30 second convo.

- Fakepartofme

Sure some people.

Some people it can be hours.

But you are missing a big point here, and how asking the question can effect a connection you are trying to make with a new person.

Asking people about their pets is good too.

Also I like to ask people about their religious beliefs even though you're not supposed to.

gotta love it when people start telling you all about whatever show they are watching in excruciating detail

either

a) you already want to see it and they're spoiling it

or

b) you have no interest in ever seeing it so why the (frank) do you want to hear about it

It’s interesting to me though. I never even though about it, so I learned something new.

(frank)ing Canada eh?

Great country but you are absolutely right. It’s work and Netflix for half of our population.

I’d love for that part of our culture to change.

- Santo_44

I’m not saying this is a Richardish way - have you ever thought of leaving and loving to Europe? I’ve always entertained the idea, but I don’t think I’d do it.

My 100lb dog would make the move “interesting”

Why?

How?

Because he has had more defensive zone starts?

You do realize the more you get the puck out and are in the O zone the less you have to defend right? Do you understand that?

- Santo_44

So you think Barrie is getting starts in the zone - they would count - and then getting the puck down ice for a face-off in the o zone and then somehow there is a 65-35% disparity?

I'm just saying to guys, Barrie is a terrible defender. So is Ceci, and they are in the top 4. Keeping pucks out of their net is going to be very difficult. Andersen will see as much or more rubber as he already does. They have not improved as a team. A few individuals will see a higher level of play, but the team is no better, and if Marner sits out significant time, they will de decidedly worse.

There's a few people who I talk to who can insightfully talk about shows, movies or whatever, but most of the time it's brutal.

That is the thing...I absolutely have. I love the way they live and the cultures they have.

But my family is here, which is a big thing. I owe my parents grandchildren that they don’t have to fly 8 hours to see

I really don’t have many complaints about Canada either other than this and a few other things.

And I have always been a big advocate of “the grass isn’t always greener”

- Santo_44

If asking someone "hey, so what do you for a living" affects any type of "connection" you may try to be making. Then its probably not worth trying to make a "connection" with said person.
Its a throw away question.

But honestly, ive rarely seen it brought up anyway.

Well, people watch netflix all over the world.
But ya...tv is too big a part of people's lives all over the modern world.
Like watching sports or following a team. Too many people get too into it

i can get geeky with movies when i'm with like minded friends but it's never just reciting plot points or whatever. that's so dull imo

I'm just a grumpy Gen-Xer, but the damn kids today don't know how to carry on a conversation in a social setting, because they won't put down their franking phones.

What's the point in going to lunch together if you aren't talking to each other?

Your entitled to your own opinion but I disagree.

It was an eye opener in Europe for me.

I’ve been making an effort not to ask ever since and it’s been great.
