Time to seek trades involving Marner - walshyleafsfan
I was just going to ask this. The leafs have to at least start entertaining the idea that he has to be traded. If he's turning down 7 years at 11 or the shorter bridge deals, it seems like his time is done.
The leafs can't afford for him to miss any games and they can't afford to have him sit out the whole season. It would be nice to trade for a top 6 forward and defense in a marner deal. Konecny and provorov+ would work. |

Dreger's report says "as much as 12 milly in the final year" ....there are clearly a bunch of conflicting reports this morning.
That just tells me the final push is being made by both sides to put pressure on each other. - The Law
Maybe he just doesn't want to be a Leaf. |

Yeah, I heard that too, they offered him 3/30M but $10m per season.
Rejected it, because he wants to make 12-15M in salary on the last year of the deal. - PatC80
If true.
That is facked up and wont sit well with me. |

Willie started this, now alot of rfas are following. - Fakepartofme

TOR has made seven and eight year offers in the $11M AAV universe but because it’s a lower AAV and longer term than Auston Matthews, it hasn’t been palatable to Marner.

Well.. technically they can absolutely afford having him sit for awhile. Leafs are making the playoffs.

Exactly. More team guys and we might stand a chance to Boston once in a while. Get nowhere with egos like Mitch. Really should look at trading Mitch to a team that has 25m spare to squeeze him in. |

Trade him and end all this. Honestly, Mitch is an amazing player but leafs can't afford to succumb to his demands. Would've been nice to have another Canadian boy who grew up loving the leafs on the roster but it doesn't look like it's going to happen. |

With how the cap situation works, any missed games the first year cap hit gets condensed, they really can't afford to let him sit. Just like the Nylander situation but they had the cap room to do that. |

Mirtle on the radio this morning is when i heard about it - Fakepartofme
https://post.futurimedia....html?cb=1568203561.458977
In the first minute of this mornings interview Mirtle says the Leafs offered "bridge close to 9 million and long term close to 11 million"
He then says that he had heard that MM camp proposed "3 x 10" |

I'd do $12 milly in the final year.
His next contract would be after a new CBA and a new US TV contract.
You qualify him at 1 year, $12 million, and then negotiate.
$12 million for a top forward in 2022-23 isn't that bad.

Me neither. Marner's agent has been using Dreger to try and pressure the Leafs, but he's rather tone deaf if he doesn't hear the response from people that his demands are not getting him any sympathy with the fan base.
If any of these reports are true - that Marner doesn't want a 3x10 deal, or that anything less than Matthews' 11.6m deal is not acceptable, he'll have to be traded.
The game of chicken is still being played, but once training camp officially starts, the final offer has to be made, and then the trade talk has to begin, or Mitch Marner can sit a year without playing hockey in the NHL. |

I mean, maybe? He isn't today, though. $11 million per is probably a slight overpay for the first year or two. |

This means absolutely nothing.
The agent doesn't care.
Nor should he. |
