At this point, Mitch has contributed more to the franchise than Matthews.

Everyone is trying to find reasons to say Matthews is better. He’s a center, he scored more goals, etc. But he doesn’t kill penalties, isn’t relied upon in all scenarios, and frankly he doesn’t play with as much jam as Mitch. When Mitch is on the ice, he’s always the most dangerous player unless sid-kuch-McDavid-MacKinnon are playing. Every coach of the opposing team raves about Mitch. “He’ll make you look stupid” “he’s a special talent” “I don’t think he realizes just how good he is”

That’s the thing...if this keeps going this way I doubt a negotiation with another team goes smoother.

No team has wanted to give up 4 1sts for 3 years of marner yet

I get that but Dubas will have other contracts to negotiate after this one. A rep as someone who leaks will hurt him down the line

Can you at least understand how Marner has a real point in using Matthews' contract as a comparison for his new contract?
