It's obviously going to be Matthews. Tavares is mature enough to not care if he's a C and has been one already. Matthews is the big first overall centre draft pick, it's obviously him.

I'm torn between the two but I hope Matthew's gets it as a way to convince him to be a leaf lifer.

It started at 3:30. They were down 3-1 going into the 3rd period. Not sure what the final outcome was.

I like either Reilly first, as he has seen and been through it and is a Leaf for life. Plus he apparently organizes all the team stuff on the road and apparently has the most energy despite his monotone interviews - which are good for a captain to have.

Second, JT. Obvious choice, experience, and signed for 6 more. Calm cool and collected and the old balls leader going forward. Probably retires a Leaf.

My reasoning also.

It doesn't guarantee anything of course (Tavares) but you have to hope that making the captain makes him a little more invested in the team.

On the other hand... dealing even MORE with the media may convince him to leave

I know Marner is the superior talent, but Tkachuk is likely to accept less money and would bring some grit with his offensive skills that the team really needs.

Does Calgary even do that?
