If pushing Mitch further away was the desired effect, then yes.
- aminnes

Nah, it was to shine a nice light on the leafs and get the fans to turn. Easy to do.
But good covering their tracks.

If reports are true

Good PR move by the leafs to leak these details if true.
Its had its required affect.

My honest take is that Dubas is wayyyyy out of his league as GM. Two drafted players are going to sit, then take him to the cleaners. There’s too many chiefs now working in management. If Dubas has free reign he’d have more pull negotiating these contracts, but he’s green as slime and these very capable agents know what they’re doing. They know the pressure points. Dubas needs to make one giant splash, just to assert himself as alpha. I don’t think he’ll last long as GM if he doesn’t, because he’ll keep getting taken advantage of.

And he kills penalties, and is on the ice at the end of the game. Oh but goals per 60 is the most important stat in hockey. Last time I checked Cosby had less goals than Ovechkin.

Agreed.

He made him look greedy as (frank).

It would be like if the Leafs offered Nylander 8x8 and he declined it. Fans would go insane.

- Santo_44

I can’t think of one thing Marner and his camp have done that makes him look good. They know that regular fans and teenage girls will forget everything if he comes back and plays well. This kind of stunt doesn’t do Dubas any good at all.

So you are just going to ignore games played?

Ok let me try. Mathews had 4 goals in his first game how many did Marner have in his first game? Case closed.

- Santo_44

ok.. now i understand.
looking forward to poehling's 9mln AAV new contract soon!

Matthews missing games and Marner playing all games last 2 seasons actually gives a plus to Marner (who wants a player with potential injury issues? not saying matthews has potential injury issues - but you cannot give marner a minus because he hasn't missed a game last 2 seasons...)

I enjoy to debate.

You are welcome to debate as well.

Oh sorry “argue” as you like to call it.

- Santo_44

Okay. I can’t totally respect that.

But - maybe lay-off the insults and knowitallism. If you’re edgy and can never admit you’re wrong about anything I can live with that. You, Max, UG all do that, and in the end I don’t despise you guys like i do some others

uhhh ... you do know crosby is both one of the top play-makers and goal scorers in the league, right? .
- Tumbleweed

Ovechkin is significantly better at goal scoring. He's got 250 more goals over their careers. Crosby wasn't lighting the lamp at anywhere ear OVs pace in the early part of their careers, but he was setting up guys constantly. Point being, no one would automatically say OV is better beeches he's scored more goals.

IMO Marner should consistently be around 30 as he gets older, with a top 2-3 assist resume.

JT wanted to come home.

Leafs were a stacked young team with cap space.

Shanny and all the money of MLSE was incentive.

It’s not just Dubas and his super powers that brought in JT, there were other factors.

And I don’t even dislike that fact that he brought JT in, I just figured he’d trade Nylander to make space this summer for Mitch, but he didn’t.. And now we’re here.

And Kucherov makes less than JT, Matthews and a bunch of other guys he's way better than. I'm sure if he was negotiating right now, he would be asking for at least McDavid, and you know this.

By the sounds of it, clearing out Nylander might not leave enough room. May have to ship Snakes and Matty out too, just so Mitch and his ego can be squeezed under the 82 mil cap

Dubas was never going to trade Nylander, never. wasnt going to happen.

And signing Nylander does not effect the space. There is enough space..for a reasonable contract

Everyone and their dog knew he was coming home. Plus Babs and Shanny were in the room. but no, it's all Dubas. All hail Dubas.

a lot of revisionist history with JT.
I remember it being very up in the air, nobody was certain of anything.
