It was said Dubas tried to sign Mitch last off-season but the Marner camp had no interest. Dubas tried. Mitch was like "gimme my 1.6 mil bonuses that Lou owes me".

Dubas was like "what the (frank) man, you sound like a 13 year old".

- walshyleafsfan

this.

dreger's tweets on the negotiations make it seem like 13 year olds are negotiating for marner.

but both sides are to blame.

(frank) him and his nonsense.

let him sit this year and take a risk that there is a lock out next year.

- Tumbleweed

Starting to agree with this.

Dubas should give him a REAL deadline and stick to it.

Losing $20m over the next two years...if Dubas holds him out and if there is a lockout...wouldn't really make sense financially for an extra $500-1M up or down on the contract for 3 to 5 years.

That agent is a piece of poop....while most are...this one really seems (frank)ing stinky. Same bullpoop tactic all the time.

Call his bluff and let Mitch sit...little b1tch.

#1 Center with size, who is the best 5v5 scoring player in the league since he entered.

>>>>>>>

Every argument you, or others, have made.

Throw in the fact that Marner had Tavares and Matthews had primarily a couple rookies.

- Aetherial

Funny you make that point - I got laughed at last season when I said I think Matthews is at teh same level as McDavid, and I would probably pick Matthews over McDavid as my #1 center for a NHL franchise, because I think Matthews can actually develop in a very very good 2 way center. I think he could win a Selke one day.

I probably have a higher opinion on Matthews than most in here putting him on same level as McDavid.
That said, , it is obvious that based on points and last 3 seasons performances, Marner's ask of getting a similar contract is actually quite fair.

We're going in circles here - it seems obvious we're not going to agree on this.
I sincerely hope you'll be right about Nylander and he's a better player than I believe he is.

I do hope Marner will start the season though - I don't understand why Leafs fans are so negative on him for not signing a new contract yet ; seems both sides are to blame here, and training camp hasn't started yet - last year much less criticism on Nylander in Nov compared Marner early September... (plus as I said several times , I believe the NHLPA CBA decision has an impact - I expect Marner to sign his new deal 16Sept).

- MaximusAurelius

But that will change nothing. It didn't with Andreas Johnsson and it won't with Nylander.

I was saying that leaking is dumb. I have no idea if Dubas did or not. Iā€™d guess not as I donā€™t think heā€™s dumb.
- Canada Cup

Gotcha, thought I had missed something.

After hearing about what Bobby mac was saying about him turning down 11x7... jeeeepers... I can understand (to a point) why he believes he's worth just as much as matthews... but if it's true that he turned doen 11x7... that more than matthews... Matty only signed at 5 years.

What the he'll mitch... say it ain't so... I really like him as a player, and his attitude towards the game, but if these rooomers are true... c'mon.

There is a real deadline - start of the season. It doesnā€™t work to make one up.

matthews = mcdavid.

but matthews has a bad contract.

mcdavid was 20 points clear of marner this past year.

but marner getting the same money as matthews = good.

got it.

Great 5vs5 player with size!

Except Babs trust the other great 5vs5 player without size to kill penalties and close out games..

Does that even matter? Babs' player usage is so odd and question by just about everyone.

If I go by usage then Auston Matthews is not a very productive, #1 NHL centre. Does that make it so?

He is horrifically missusing Matthews.

Babs thought Hyman on 1 leg was the best choice to take faceoffs against Bergeron in a deciding playoff game.

uhhh ... you do know crosby is both one of the top play-makers and goal scorers in the league, right? .

AND he is a center where OV is a winger. I am not sure what he was thinking.

Okay. I canā€™t totally respect that.

But - maybe lay-off the insults and knowitallism. If youā€™re edgy and can never admit youā€™re wrong about anything I can live with that. You, Max, UG all do that, and in the end I donā€™t despise you guys like i do some others

Both Matthews and Marners defensive capabilities are both overrated.

Marners is overrated much more.

They both make the odd block shot and backcheck and everyone goes nuts.

Imo, Mitch has a better overall game.

Thatā€™s all I meant.

Matthews is still a fantastic two-way player. Heā€™s spent his first 3 seasons carefully learning how to be the best C he can be. But he still has more ā€œtricksā€ to add the the bag (so to speak)

Mitch is in a special category for how he sees the game.

Game 6 was a deciding game for Toronto. I was referring to game 6.

And what about my other points?

Few defensive zone starts...

Wasnā€™t really relied upon to be that guy. He protects the puck well, and is usually in position. But imo (and itā€™s just that, mine) Mitch is sees the ice better. Heā€™s definitely better at seeing a play develop, and making crisp passes.

The coach's player usage is crazy. Why do I even care? There have been so many horrible players on our PK since Matthews joined the team.

I really donā€™t know where you are getting this info on Matthews and Marner being fantastic two way players....they are both ok in their own end.

Iā€™m not talking PK.
