The operative presumption here is that the youth won’t be ready. If that’s true, the roster requires a vet.
You don’t like Larsson at $1.55M because of his impact on the cap. What vet is signing for a lesser impact on the cap? What was the alternative to hedge against the possibility the kids WONT be ready.
There may be layers on this onion. - Der Kaiser
Not really.
I don't want the Lockport Twins on this team because
-they are redundant to other players signed already such as Wilson, Smith, Lazar and heaven forbid Sobotka. The resigning of those two was completely unnecessary.
-Wilson, Lazar and Sobotka, already signed no need to search and sign someone else.
-Wilson, Lazar and Sobotka are the backup plan if the kids aren't ready, this is worst case scenario. The resigning of the Lockport Twins was completely unnecessary.
-we are talking about 4th line players with zero Offensive production on a team that for the last 4 months if the season played at a near-historically bad pace, nearly finishing in last place after holding 1st place overall in late November. We are talking Girgenson and Larsson, it isn't as though they are trying to replace Point and Kucherov. Girgenson and Larsson!
If ever there was/is a season that is primed for giving the youth movement a year of experience in the big leagues it is the '19-'20 season for the Buffalo Sabres. Similar in nature to when Jack went down last January...they should have given Mitts the keys to see if he can play well with talented wingers in Skinner and Sam ... but nope, let's try friggin Swiss Army Knife there...makes absolutely zero sense when one peaks back the layers.
And it isn't the Cap space, although there is an implication there, it is stifling the youth movement at positions that warrant taking the associated risk. There are bigger impacts for the Cap, the Lockport twins are nothing in that regard. |

Two years ago I hated Larsson more than anyone.
But the last two years he’s actually played well defensively
I disagree he’s redundant to guys like Sobotka/Wilson/Elie etc.
He’s better than them by a considerable amount |

This is a common refrain from the I think we are gonna be good "team".
However, it fails to give the proper measure to the associated impact on the Cap.
So, while it all sound simple and good, it isn't that easy.
Furthermore, trading Girgs, trading Larry? 2 guys with what 20 points between them on a bottom 5 team...I'm sure Tampa, Toronto, Winnepeg, et all are just lining up for them, lol. Yezzerman wouldn't answer the phone call.
The team is about $1.5m under the Cap AFTER puting Hunwick on LTIR, which is about where most teams want to be under the Cap...or a bit more ($2.M - $2.5m under) during the season to enable short-term injury replacements and potential trades. So as if stands, Botts would prefer money in/money out transactions.
Waiving guys such as Girgs, Larry, Wilson saves about ~$1.0m ...roughly the same as a replacement player on an ELC. Banishing Okposso to the AHL, al la Moulson...the same $1.0m savings.
So there you have it, your replacement players are all on ELC's.
Can it be done, absolutely. Are these real limitations, absolutely.
It simply isn't a blank check to be cashed.
We best hope the youngins are ready for prime time...else, we are stuck with the same BS players. - IonSabres
I don't know. I'm mystified. I know nothing. |

Ristolainen asked if he's happy if he's still here in March: "Let's go day by day."
Seriously just trade him already. He wants to leave. It’s so freaking obvious |

There really isn't anything to talk about.
Only one player from last year is off the roster. Two if you count Nylander.
Until something else happens, what can they say? |

And a new coach that will make everyone better. Put the clubs in storage boys, you won't need them until late June. |

It's just embarrassing when 1 of this town's 2 professional sports teams inspires such a profound feeling of apathy that the sports radio station talks about the toy hall of fame, golf and fantasy football on the day camp opens |

They have 9 more months to talk about the Sabres. What are they going to report on today, what everyone weighs in at or the fancy ride they pulled up to the arena in?

I'd like to hear about the Mitts weight in. I heard they had to bring in a truck scale.

That groaning sound I hear coming from downtown is Mitts' bicycle. I hear his blood type is Ragu. When he sits around the house, he sits around the house. He has more Chins than a Chinese phone book. |

And they lowered him onto it using a crane.
They had to distract him with a 24 pack of Sahlen's and a blueberry crumb cheesecake. |

Camps are opening all over the league and SiriusXM NHL radio is still playing re-runs of their offseason previews/report cards. It's not just here. It's everywhere. The openings of NHL training camps are simply not a significant thing in this league.
It's not like the NFL channel where their crew makes a visit to every training camp throughout the summer. |

They have to cut a large hole in the Keybank center roof just to lower him onto the ice. You miss the days of Sabretooth dropping from the catwalk? Wait until you see Mitts hit the ice for warmups......
