JD said he's spoken to Henrik Lundqvist, who's in great shape and whose mind is in a good place. "I expect him to be Hank. And when Hank's Hank, he's pretty good.'' Added he doesn't expect any one goalie to play "a huge amount of games.'' - jimbro83
He'd make a nice part of the package we trade for Laine - 2sticks1puck
Supposedly, Jets offered him a 2 year " show me" contract at 5 mill per. I'm assuming he said no. He's got great sniping skills, but he's slow and has gotten slower over last couple of years, and is worth zero when he doesn't score. If I was Jets, I'd be terrified of giving him a long term deal.

He's still a proven 40 goal scorer who even in a bad year with a prolonged slump easily got north of 30 goals. I'm not saying he's nearly as good as him, but Jagr wasn't the fastest skater in the world the second half of his career, but could still pile up the points because that kind of sniping ability just does not go away.
If I was the Jets, you kind of have to keep him. You have several really nice players, but Laine probably is the highest end goal scorer that they have. He definitely has to show that he can adjust to the league, I think to some extent the league sort of got the book on him the second half of last season and that was part of it. Also think it could be somewhat mental. He did post about a ppg in their first round playoff loss though.
If you want to argue we shouldn't get him because we already have Kravs and Kakko who potential can pile goals up I might be inclined to agree with you.

I love Laine, I'd love to have him but it's just no way in the cards
the amount of money it would take to sign him, and the fact that I don't think we could get him without including Kravstov in a deal anyway. but I am a huge fan of his.

No doubt about that. It's probably worth more to the Jets to let him sit out a year than to deal him for pennies. I have no idea how any of these marque RFAs are going to sign. I'm kind of shocked that at this point, none of them punted and signed like a 1-2 9 mil AAV deal yet.

I attribute his "slump" last season to a back injury. Just like our own Kreider who played through an injury and had poor numbers. If his back injury is not the chronic kind, then there should be no issue for a long-term contract.

That could be a factor too. Laine is >>>>> Krieder though. Even in a bad year he surpassed Kreider's career best goal total and almost got to Kreider's career high point total. If he even bounces back somewhat he is still a legit superstar.
With the usual caveat that nothing is done until it's done, it sounds like there's been some progress in contract talks between the #leafs and RFA Mitch Marner.

I'm calling a 1-2 year deal now. Give him like 8-9 AAV and then punt it to when hopefully for them, the cap goes up by a decent amount.
