Its not like he is an unknown at the SHL level so I dont see how it hurts his development to play another big year over there.

He got his feet wet in N/A this year at prospects camp, rookie camp and training camp.

Yeah it might hurt our skilled depth in NJ if a top player goes down with injury but it wouldnt be a wasted season for Boqvist per say.

I do however think he has a pretty good shot at making it and I believe its even been tossed around by Fitsy and Ray.

Boqvist is going to be 21 in October so it's not like he's a super young kid. I think they play fewer games in the SHL season so even with reduced minutes per game he could end up playing around the same amount of hockey here.

He'll continue to gain confidence in the SHL if he stays for another successful year, but it does sort of hurt his development in that he isn't learning how to play in the NHL... which admittedly does have the potential to be hard on young players. Just saying.

It would suck to burn a year off his contract if he goes to Sweden when he could have stayed and just signed a one year deal in Sweden.

My guess he'll make the team easily.

Because he's good enough for the NHL and will make the team better.

I dont think he will be at this point yet but what happens if Greene isnt an nhl level player this year? Do better players sit because he wears the C ala Salvador or would it be different this time ?

I still think he has another respectable season left at least but curious if it has been thought about.

Greene was our best defensman on the PK last year, which for many teams might not mean a whole lot but considering 5 of our top 6 dmen are considered more offensive than defensive minded, don't think its a bad thing keeping him around even if he's a bit of an anchor 5v5.

It's a shame Greene is getting (hockey) old and that he probably has played over his head for most of his career; but I find the general disrespect for him remarkable. You see people write he should be healthy scratch and stuff like that and I just wonder WTF they're watching. I appreciate your level headed comment on our Captain.

Greene has played against top level competition on mediocre to bad teams for big minutes year after year. The fans that poop on him for not being better are insane.

Greene may not be a top pairing defenseman anymore but he deserves to play every night. Not only is a leader showing young kids how to play the right way. He will lead the team in P.K. time and will fit better on the second or third pairing (mentoring Smith).

He likely is but it isnt like he cant get even better offensively in the SHL. Now the point on the contract does make a lot of sense.

Burning a year would suck and by all accounts he has looked amazing ( I have watched all the games so far...) but again I think you are taking me as stating something when I was only trying make someone realize that it wouldnt ruin our season and worst things have happened.

Watching the interviews today everyone seems pretty optimistic about the additions to the team and where everyone is at.

The relief everyone has that Simmonds is playing with us rather than against us, is nice to see. He always had an impact. We have a few guys now that get under the skin, between him, Wood, Coleman, and even PK is a good at chirping and annoying people from what I remember. "Functional grit" if you will. With that and the offensive weapons they have in the top 6, they should be a fun to watch, and an annoying team to play against.

Looking at the roster they have a pretty good mix of everything - personalities, skill sets, ages. Interesting group really. It will be fun to watch how everyone does in camp and what this team looks like on the ice once they shake out the roster and set up the lines.

I wonder how Mueller will fit in, I'm sure they will want to rotate him in and he was good on the ok from what I remember

Gusev isn't in NHL 20 yet, kinda disappointed. Didn't see Boqvist either, hoping they are added in shortly.

Also, don't ever preorder for HUT packs. Waste of money to get a 85 matthews and 83 player of your choice (goes up 1 overall every month until April).

Maltsev and Popagaev have been on my radar for a bit as I really checked out his highlights the year we took him.

My thoughts on him are pretty much the same as before though he is a bull on the puck but could use some work on team mate utilization. Guy can dangle in a phone booth but doesnt know when to pass lol still super excited in him as a project and same for the big papa.

We are gonna have 2 stacked PP units. With Perimeter shooters, crease guys, playmakers galore. This is gonna be sick

This. He’s still an NHL level defender, he’s just not a top pairing level NHL defensemen.
