It's a shame Greene is getting (hockey) old and that he probably has played over his head for most of his career; but I find the general disrespect for him remarkable. You see people write he should be healthy scratch and stuff like that and I just wonder WTF they're watching. I appreciate your level headed comment on our Captain.

Zajac's been given the same treatment. I feel like people don't understand that most coaches don't give a poop about a players contract or age, they want to win and will put their team in the best position to do that.

He likely is but it isnt like he cant get even better offensively in the SHL. Now the point on the contract does make a lot of sense.

Burning a year would suck and by all accounts he has looked amazing ( I have watched all the games so far...) but again I think you are taking me as stating something when I was only trying make someone realize that it wouldnt ruin our season and worst things have happened.

As long as we have enough depth not to put a Pietela or Speers in the lineup

Greene was our best defensman on the PK last year, which for many teams might not mean a whole lot but considering 5 of our top 6 dmen are considered more offensive than defensive minded, don't think its a bad thing keeping him around even if he's a bit of an anchor 5v5.

I respect what he has done for this team, but if we are playing our best players, he's out. Who else is going to step in front of a shot? Butcher? Subban? Doubtful. We need at least one guy to lay it all on the line, especially on the PK. The key is to not overplay him 5 on 5.

Also he had 25 points last year. Not bad for a guy who is basically stay at home at this point in his career. He can still contribute. That 25 points was only 5 less then Butcher.

Top IMO is:

PK>Severson>Butcher>Vats>Greene>Smith>Mueller>Carrick

... Smith is still a question mark in the NHL also.. so this may even be generous, sure he is supposed to be good but so was all the others like Santini, etc...until they were here and ended up just being so-so.

I see what you're saying, but Santini never won CHL defenseman of the year. It's a similar case to, say, Boucher vs Boqvist. The were hyped because of the state of the prospect pool at the time, but Smith and Boqvist are WAY better.

I get Butcher has been very good offensively, but he's been sheltered and I don't think he's that strong defensively. Not sure how he gets ranked as better than Vats; who's been our top pair defender often partnered with an aging Andy Greene.

Vats is a very good D. He didn't put up the numbers last year, but he is still very valuable. Tho with the Jets losing Buff for an undisclosed amount of time, they are desperate for a RD. Otherwise their top 3 RD are Niku, Pionk, Poolman......That isn't good enough.
